I've watched the own goal over and over again and still have no idea what Ihiekwe was putting his arms up for after heading it in. Was he hoping he would be ruled offside? Or is it just the norm these days, ball goes in net, defenders and goalkeeper look for some possible excuse to rule a goal out?

They were up in our faces all night or centre backs didn't have the usual 30 yards of space in front of them to pass along the back line and wait for a forward pass to become available hence we went long which was how they wanted us to play. Stewart batted well but Broadhead got bullied big time. They didn't let us put our foot on the ball and even if we wanted to we didn't really have the technical players out there first half particularly to play our normal passing game.

They are not a good side but they were very effective for this level and barring a freak once in a decade own goal would have beaten us quite comfortably. Well as comfortable as 1-0 ever could be.

We got a point however and kept our playoff place in our own hands. Looks like it will be Sheff Wed and away 2nd leg which should in my opinion have been the final but there's no reason we can't do them. The winner of us 2 will go up can't see MK doing a lot and Wycombe/Plymouth are very beatable.

Its an age thing, the digital age thing. I often look back and wish I had been able to record the events I have witnessed or attended., I once went into town early one Saturday morning to see the huge Lowery retrospective, opening at the Sunderland Museum and was surprised to see no one else there other than a tall man in a huge black overcoat standing in the middle of it all, after slowly moving round the gallery and him, it dawned on me that this was in fact L S Lowery and we continued alone in silence to circle each other for about 15 minutes , just me him and his life's work . Its an image I will never forget but brings home the adage of a picture being worth a thousand words especially his and mine . <laugh>

Its something that I often comment on. People go to watch live music, sport, etc and look at the entire thing through a phone screen as they record. I remember a few year back seeing a recorded video where you could see people in front with a ipad recording.

Enjoy the atmosphere and soak up the moment yourself and forget about your social media. But these days people of a certain age care more about letting everyone know how great of a time they are having than having a good time!

Rotherham proved last night that if you don't have the funds, sign units. We found units in our team, possibly Doyle, but he got hoyed about a few times last night. Best team in the leauge for me. Add insult to injury,Players like Power and Wyke will be in the Championship next season.

Aye. You can see why they are where they are every time, but you can also see why they struggle a level up.

Agree totally. But if you don’t take enough chances to win a game, you can’t complain when the other team are clinical and take their chance. Or at least allow your player to take it for them!!!

It was a typical Sunderland “**** the bed” performance for me. A win would’ve guaranteed us a play off place so we decide to play abysmally.

A couple of players I’d like to dig out in particular, one is Luke O’Nien who was absolutely pathetic for the goal we conceded and was shocking in general. I’d peddle him in the summer no matter the division. This is his fourth season now and I just think he’s a bang average L1 midfielder.

Callum Doyle is the other. Yes he’s only 18 but I hope he never pulls on a Sunderland shirt again.

What Rotherham are very good at being a league one side, they know how to play it, if that had been in the Premier or even the championship, Ross Stewart would have had 20 free kicks last night.
Fair play to Rotherham though they know what you can and can't do in this league however I thought we did OK, yes we didn't create much but neither did one of the best teams in the league, last night could end up being a massive point come Saturday

Quite a few played out of position because of injuries this season.
Credit to him for his efforts and maybe we could have/probably would have attained an automatic spot if not for those injuries.

Tight looking at the guy in the middle. Their back feet are in similar positions. But, as you say, he didn’t touch it. All but gave it up

I missed the fookin goal, went in the kitchen FFS .
Mainly due to "if I don't look we might score" :D

They were more physical and a good side but as I said the other week I'm a believer in making your own luck.

They got a set piece against the run of play but no great threat most of the time and we stuck at it.
Even when they time wasted and defended their lead.
If their defender hadn't intercepted that ball, it was a great cross and probably a goal.

Each to his own I suppose, the mobile phone has enabled more events to be recorded and viewed, just wish it had arrived earlier tbh.

I can 100% see where you are coming for and agree from the preserving those memories etc.

I would happily look at any that stuff back just wouldn't record it myself, selfishi suppose <laugh>. Bit like photos tbh I hardly ever take any but wife takes loads of the kids, days out etc and I'll happily look at them but I'm just not the type to get phone out and take the photo or record a video.

This was my first thought when thinking about it again, would it have been a goal anyway. And I agree with you it was a good ball that seemed to be dropping for Stewart to slot it away nicely, which is why the defender had to try something. Who was it who stopped the cross from Hume getting through to Broadhead? That was a goal if he didn't get that touch aswell.

Well I pretty much predicted where our problems would lie and take no comfort at being right. Deep crosses are their number one weapon.
Having said that we didn't lose, agree it wasn't pretty from our point of view but we didn't taste defeat and our good run of results goes on and it's in our hands on Saturday, and in all fairness to the manager that was all we could realistically hope for when he came in.
Too many what if's for Saturday so we win and it's job done and into the play off lottery.
If we get there were one of three teams showing good consistent results and we can just hope the team continue in that vein for another four games OaU.

I'm with you on, Doyle. He was way out of his depth against Rotherham. He'll never make a top defender. He's slow, fat and gets pushed around far to easily.

Re Doyle. He looked next level at the start of the season. But he looks like I’d beat him in the air now (I’m 5’ 6”)!! I don’t think it’s strictly his fault. Burnout maybe. But he looks nowhere near even league 1 level at the minute
