Another ANZAC Day. And the band played Waltzing Matilda. RIP, boys. And an in-memoriam salute to Cyclonic, whose wit and wisdom lit up these pages for so many years.
Just to repeat my post on Sunday's thread. Inspiral, longtime favourite for the 1000G and Oaks, will be withdrawn from Sunday's race. Apparently not ready for her race, her target is the Coronation at Royal Ascot: which presumably means they'll scratch her from the Oaks too. The 1000G now looks wide open, though AOB's Tenebrism is a relatively short favourite.
I think it was around Christmas time. He suddenly stopped posting. Nobody had contact details for him but he was such a stalwart that the assumption was that he had passed away. Top bloke and highly amusing.
Very nice bloke. I was aware he'd stopped posting and think everyone assumed the worse. I just thought I'd missed official word. Fingers crossed he's still with us and just off cruising the world
No, I think it was around December 30th of that year when he posted a in response to an article by Oddy on the rising number of deaths in Germany from the Corona pandemic? Kept very much to himself. Used to chat with Cyc frequently on the forum's PM facility. One of my best pals in the oil business was in retirement for quite a while in the town of Caloundra, not too far from where Cyc lived. Cyc used to go down there a lot with his missus shopping, and I told him my friend would certainly have liked to have a game of snooker with him, or whatever, but Cyc declined. My old pal, a Canadian by birth but a citizen of New Zealand moved-on and passed away a few years later in another country. So, they never met. Cyclonic was indeed a grand fellow, and was indeed a terrific member of the not606 forum. I am not going to say RIP, because no one can be absolutely sure of his demise.
thanks for that swanny , one of the pitfalls of on line “ community “ it’s semi real , but ultimately in the ether......really hope we are all wrong , you’d expect such an erudite and clearly gifted person to leave some clues and a legacy of his work ! When so many undeserving narcissistic types get loads of attention in a celebrity dominated social media , the understated yet powerful and interesting folks get smothered ...........shame
