Five at the back, no creativity in the middle and isolated forwards. Got rid of all of our attacking midfielders and now we're lacking options.
In the meantime work on the system, get those who he can rely on playing in it and then in the summer add more too it. Only thing I think he should be doing is looking at changing the personnel at RWB as Emerson can’t play it. Give Bergwijn or Lucas a go like how he converted Perisic from LW to LWB. Likewise giving White a go over Hojbjerg. Chopping and changing systems doesn’t work, we’ve tried it with three different managers in the space of about 3 years. It’s the playing personnel that needs changing.
Our game relies on accurate passing and speed of thought. The last couple of games we've had neither. We just have to hope that Leicester will play us back to form.
Summary of my afternoon: my niece is the kid who the parents with both a BMW and a Mercedes in their driveway call precocious ...and everyone in their class calls a little **** I'm still 3-4 drinks short
surely Conte should be using a system that works best with the players we currently have? Utilise their strengths rather than live on a prayer.
Kane & Son were amonge those that contributed, to a large degree, towards this result today... of that there can be no doubt. Infact, I would'nt give anyONE of the Mary Poppins sect, more then 3 out of 10 for their efforts.
Using more than the same 13 players would also help If a bunch of the squad hit the wall at the exact same time, having people we can rely on to come off the bench would be useful - but we make the exact same subs at the exact same time far too often, ignoring how none of the exact same subs who come on at the exact same time don't really do much when they do come on
Whatever you are eating/drinking/smoking/listening to/reading or watching, can I have some? You are the most optimistic person ever... how ? After years of being a spur how have you managed it
What system works best with what we've got? What strengths do we have outside of "pass it to Kane or Son"? We haven't had a viable system since Poch 2015-2018 and that's when he had the perfect players for his system. Look what happened when Dembele declined and left, likewise Eriksen, Rose, Vertonghen, Alderweireld etc, the system fell apart. Look at the differences players like Alderweireld, Wanyama and Son (eventually) made on their predecessors under Poch. He never changed his system, he changed and upgraded personnel and that's what Conte needs too. He's already improved us at is, under Conte we're in with an outside shot of top four and barring anything catastrophic should at least have some form of European football for next season, something that looked very unlikely under Nuno. Give the man more of his own players and we'll further improve.
It would be useful but we don't have that. Our squad is woeful, we've all known it for years. When your bench options can't beat NS Mura and struggle without the aid of first teamers against Morecambe then you know you're not going to have reliable options on the bench to call upon. Our best two squad players are Lucas and Bergwijn who are two painfully average players as it is. The only other options would be giving the U23s more chances to get some youthful unpredictability into the side but it doesn't seem like Conte will do that. That'd probably be my only real gripe with Conte. I can't blame him for not rotating Lucas/ Bergwijn/ Winks/ Sanchez etc into the XI more because it just weakens us from the off.
It is telling that r/coys are now getting fixated on us not using Bergwijn, which on the one hand says a hell of a lot about the hive mentality of r/coys - but also does highlight that Lucas is habitually coming off the bench for us, yet doesn't actually do anything when he does, which begs the question why he's guaranteed to come off the bench as he doesn't seem to do much when he does If anything this is what weakens us when we dip into the subs, because we can guarantee the same players will be coming off the bench and we don't know why, and that's what's solidifying the belief that the squad is shallow because we're not even bringing on the likes of White or Devine when 4-0 up (which is especially baffling as Scarlett has come on in similar situations) yet we're bringing on Winks, who is perfect for being 4-0 up, when we're at 0-0
This is either a passmap, or an ultrasound showing that Bentancur is currently pregnant with Kane please log in to view this image I've seen the all-too predictable dogpiling on Emerson, but realistically look at the complete lack of traffic out to the right flank in general. Hojbjerg's getting the ball to Deki about half as much as he is Emerson (arguably a third as much) while Bentancur is getting the ball to Son half as much as Kane is and getting it out to Sess about half as much as that That's two straight games where our passing patterns have not panned out, and while we're moving out of our half far more than we did against Brighton - which is possible, due to Brentford not timewasting from the 5th minute like Brighton were - but the reality is our passing patterns aren't that expansive not just from the pivot, but Dier's not spraying it around as much from the middle of the back three either And this is also the coin toss with Harry Kane dropping deep: when it works it can be a thing of beauty, as he will be bringing in Son and Deki all game long - but when it doesn't it removes a focal point to our attack and also stalls our momentum, which was what was happening routinely under Nuno and happened today as our midfield got that extra man it needed last Saturday
