****e though, apparently. In all seriousness though, when he keeps things simple he's such a good player, so frustrating he doesn't do it all the time.
Best I can remember Gooch playing, excellent today. Cross after cross right on the money, should have been 8 or so goals today really. Great performance all round.
Aye, it's such a shame that he can't repeat that level of performance consistently. That was the best I've seen him play all season.
well, just when you think the old banana skin is coming for us we get the rub of the green (finally) and get a good win. was it a penalty though, from the limited view on the stream their lad seemed to run into the back of stewart and take him out, another ref on another day may well have waved play on as we have seen so many times in this league but i feel the sending off was very harsh, stewart did not have control of the ball at any time and i certainly would not call it a 'certain goal scoring opportunity'. that said, how often do we hear it is often harder to play against 10 men yet i got the feeling even if they had 11 on the pitch they would have struggled today...they really only tried (or had the chance, more likely) to put a few passing moves together around the 70th minute but then i think they are content with their league position now with little to fight for so there wa sno great urgency from them, although the chance to take another 'big scalp' might have spurred them on early doors, the red card basically finished any ideas they could have had. cant say anyone had an off day today which is unusual although to be fair we were rarely stretched but the lads kept their concentration right till the last minute...might get a few disagreements here considering the goals, but my MotM is gooch, i have said it before that when he keeps it simple and just gets those crosses in he is an asset as he showed today, his problems stem from trying to do too much and since AN has come in gooch seems to be doing the right things a lot more than the wrong things now. when you look at how many close calls we had we could have easily hit double figures today, it is not that long ago we would have made damn heavy weather of playing against ten men, professional job done well today. and that is all we can do now.
Happy with that. They were **** but hey ho. Embleton was superb, really making us tick. Glad Rossco is back on the scoresheet as well. Only downside was that's probably the last we will see of Winchester this season which is a shame for the lad. Roll on Tuesday, I fancy us to beat them as well
Best we have played under Neil though obviously helped by the early red card. Not sure it really mattered that much we played that well. Movement and sharpness of passing was exceptional. Gooch the obvious Motm but Evans mopped up everything in midfield and O'Nien 's running might have went unnoticed by many but opened the spaces time after time for everyone else
That was a super clinical and professional display. Everyone did their jobs and did them well. Gooch deffo MoTM. Well done lads. I think we are almost there re play offs OaU
Anthony Patterson: 6/10 Made a good claim from a corner when he came through a crowd, nothing else to do and no chance with the goal. Carl Winchester: 6/10 Injured early on in the game after bursting forward down the left. Bailey Wright: 7/10 Really comfortable at the back, dealt with a dangerous striker in Ironside pretty easily. Danny Batth: 7/10 Good header for the fifth, comfortable at the back and an easy return to the first team. Lynden Gooch: 10/10 Unbelievable today, rampant down the right and his delivery time and time again was spot on. Corry Evans: 7/10 Mopped up in front of the defence and kept the team ticking. Luke O’Nien: 7/10 Given license to get forward and really should have scored with a free header late on but linked up play between the attack and midfield well. Elliot Embleton: 9/10 Played a little deeper than usual to great effect. Spread play really well, had an eye for a pass around the box and scored a free kick from an outrageous angle. Patrick Roberts: 8/10 A great cross for Batth’s goal and tormented the opposition right back all afternoon, had one really well hit shot blocked in the first half. Nathan Broadhead: 8/10 Got on the end of another Gooch cross to score, could also have scored one or two in the first half. Ross Stewart: 9/10 Great to see him back on the scoresheet, two goals and won the penalty from which he scored the opener from. Second goal was a great finish and just a shame he never got a hat-trick. Substitutes Callum Doyle: 7/10 Came on very early and gave us a good balance on the left, got caught out by a runner in behind for their goal but otherwise a comfortable afternoon. Alex Pritchard: 7/10 An easy return to action for Pritchard, played one great ball out wide to Gooch and was always dangerous around the box. Dan Neil: 6/10 Came on in place of Evans and was disciplined as he played a deeper role than we’d usually expect to see from him. Man of the Match: Lynden Gooch There was some very good performances today but Gooch was exceptional. He morphed into prime David Beckham with his display on the right, putting in dangerous crosses all game long. Got two assists and it could easily have been four or five on the day.
Would have preferred an Oxford win. Their goal difference is too much to make up and they'll probably lose at Gillingham.
