Really? How could a biology teacher not accept evolution?

Evolution is not Darwinism as such, the concept was accepted well before Darwin. He just proposed the theory of natural selection as a mechanism for it, as opposed to the Lamarckian theory favoured before.

The problem with these bible literalists is that many don't really know what the bible literally says. Many of them use the King James version as their source-of-truth. KJV not only has some mistranslations but also some deliberate errors to try and cover up contradictions.

Example: theres actually two versions of who killed Goliath in the bible. In the famous account David kills Goliath. Elsewhere in the bible his cousin does. (But KJV changes that verse so that he doesn't... A deliberate corruption)

Some other famous examples: A lot of them think the bible says Mary was a virgin, Eve bit an apple, and the world was created in seven days. The original text in the original languages (for the various parts) actually isn't that clear...

There is reason to believe Mary was a virgin in the text from other clues but the word that is translated into "virgin" in the bible actually meant "young unmarried Woman" and is incorrectly translated as virgin.

The word for what Eve bites into actually usually means a citrus fruit, but could mean fruit generically. (Literally apples and oranges different to what most people believe)

And the earth created in seven days, the word that translates to "days" usually did mean day, but could be used more generically meaning period of time. So it's really earth created in seven stages in the original text.

How can you trust a literal interpretation.of the bible when you're using badly translated materials that have been skewed to say what people want it to say?

Have you read The Spice Islands Voyage by Tim Severin. Traces the route of Alfred Russel Wallace who actually beat Darwin to the evolution theory and natural selection, but Darwin was able to beat him to publishing.

Jesus was a blue eyed blonde haired European too! <laugh>

Hey, the Mormons believe the garden of Eve was in Jackson County, Missouri. Because of course an American denomination would put the start of all life in America.

they both went with biblical versions though my O Level teacher taught it well enough hence i remember Mendel. The A level one to my "next you will be telling me you think that Eve was created from Adams spare rib" answered "Yes" which considering i fairly often read Spare Rib made me laugh and is my explanation for failing to pass my Biology A level*.

Spoke to an American lady once who was adamant jesus was the greatest American ever born. Pointed out that America as a country didn't exist 2000 years ago, she happily dismissed the reasoning and just carried.

I didnt speak to her for long.

If you told her he was born in the Middle East she'd probably think you meant Kentucky.
