An 18 year old coming into a squad with seasoned professionals like Rooney, Ibrah, Carrick, Mata. Had he continued to have players like that around him and the success that goes with them, then he would be a stronger person. But instead it quickly transformed into mercenaries with managers who fcked the club over or were out of their depth. I don't think he's downed tools. I suspect he's more beaten down by it all. Which is why I want him to be given the chance of playing under Ten Hag in a rebuild in which he sees the team is growing and he's a part of it. It's not just about local lad done good. I found the above video of the Man U fans reactions funny, but I have to say that even in our darkest days I've never, ever come out with such vitriol against my own players - even in the heat of the game. Frustration yes, but the degree of venom is quite disconcerting. I suppose it's not that big a step to threatening harm to someone when you take their poor displays as a personal affront. Crazy.
