One minute you're criticising these clubs as oil dopers, the next minute you're saying we should match them?
    Can't have it both ways.

Surely though we are dining at the top table

maybe we looking at this wrong
Maybe we should offer Klopp 500k a week to stay another 4 years ? Then he can have something to do with finding the next Salah

Definitely. Klopp is the linchpin of the team.
I'd sell Mo and buy Darwin, if it were that simple.

They're the same across Real, Barca, PSG, City, Chavski, United and Bayern. Apart from Bayern, they're all dopers or billions in debt and I don't want to be either. Bayern are helped by the total dominance over the German market earning nearly 175% more than the second best.

So we are at the big table. It's just the table you don't cheat to be at and if that's not where Mo wants to be, he can take his pick elsewhere.

I agree. We got our seat at the table without paying those wages, so I don't see why we have to pay them to retain it.

There's a whole multitude of reasons for and against these wages. primarily because here in the real world we all agree they are crazy but market forces are market forces.

Back in "the day" we were paying 100k max when other were paying 200k or 250k and its only got more and more and more.

this extends backwards in time as well. I would in general agree you simply do not need to pay the same team performance, however you cannot expect to build a quality team over time without paying competitively.

LFc in general pays reasonably competitively and declares the lot rather than hides it, and that includes agents fees. That's why we have a full squad at the top.

however, when it comes to the top table players are paid a lot so we can't complain when a player goes and leaves to join PSG can we? (yet some did quite bitterly)

I find the whole thing amazing that people pay massive money to have BT and SKy and pay massive merchandising or shirt prices or ticket prices to drive this stuff.

I suppose as long as peopel keep pump the cash into the funnel it'll flow out to these guys.

I'd say he's been offered the planet by Bayern and barca multiple times over the years.

I think people need to realise that even compared to bayern munich our pay scales are not that high.

    Sane 275k per week
    Nueur 300k a week
    upamecano 200k
    hernandez 215k
    muller 250k
    lewandowski 350k

overall when we look over the "top 16" clubs in europe that we want to compete with we find Real, Barca, Atletico, PSG, Juve, City, Chelsea, Utd, bayern all paying more and clubs like arsenal and spurs paying similar to us, with arsenal dropping down by selling off more expensive players.

to be outperforming the lot (more or less) and paying less is moneyball I suppose but the thing about money ball is when theres 10 bigger fishes they will eat you.

How may trophies have dortmund won over the past 10 years playing moneyball (quite successfully) 3 german cups in a two horse race in 10 years?

I'm sure if Liverpool were to offer him £500k per week he wouldn't say "no you keep your money".

When he joined Liverpool initially, he said one thing at the start of negotiations before leaving his agent to it. He said the deal should be for him and his team and the money would be split equally.

Give him £500k per week and he'll take it but share it with his team.

I'm sure he wouldn't say no. the point is he has his project to show he's a legend. Go to real madrid say and you win the title and CL and they sack you and forget you. Klopp knows he'll probably never spend all the cash anyway. He's in it for the achievement and what it brings

FourFourTwo reporting that terms have been agreed between Man City, Dortmund and Haaland. That'll lift them to yet another level imo

Edit; something on Sky Sports too but not a confirmation

They'll arrange a couple of new 'sponsors' to pay his wages I expect.

it certainly would. the fee is a steal the wages are merely kdb. Its like getting kante for 75% of the fee but 7/8 years younger and less wages.

you'd be mad to buy kane when you could do this.

I'm sure there will be a stream of stories about haaland bids from psg and real and barca shortly.

I would presume the under the tbale tax dodging payments to haalands team will swing the deal though.

Pretty clear that would happen. Much better option than Kane too.

Kanes probably missed his chance now. Only hope would be signing for united which can’t see new manager doing. Or Poch brings him to psg or Madrid if he goes there, but then Kane woukdnt get chance to break shearers record.

Kind of needs to work out what’s more important to him, being part of a team that may win a couple of league titles or staying and potentially being top prem scorer which will be held for quite a while.

Remember Shearer won 1 Prem title but lives off his prem scoring record and is remembered more for that,
