    Reading v Swansea City

    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
Venue - Select Car Leasing Stadium
    Date - 18 April 2022
    Kick off - 3:00pm

Following their disappointing home draw against Barnsley, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a trip to Berkshire on Easter Monday to face Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

On Good Friday, Barnsley squandered the opportunity to revive their evaporating hopes of avoiding relegation as they drew from a winning position against the Swans.

The visitors missed several first-half chances before Claudio Gomes gave them a deserved lead after the break.

Just moments after Swans defender Joel Latibeaudiere hit his own post, Olivier Ntcham equalised for the hosts with a superb curling strike.

Barnsley continued to create the better opportunities and Matthew Wolfe and, then, Cauley Woodrow both missing further chances for Barnsley late on.

With Reading winning at Sheffield United, Barnsley are now 10 points adrift of safety in the Championship with only five matches to play this season.

The Swans remained 14th - the faintest flames of hope of reaching the play-offs are now surely extinguished.

Whilst the Swans were drawing against Barnsley, Reading were edging closer to securing their Championship status with a dramatic late victory at Sheffield United that dented the Blades' promotion hopes in the process. (if only the Swans had won <doh>)

Tom McIntyre poked home in stoppage time after Iliman Ndiaye thought he had saved a point for the hosts with an equaliser a minute earlier.

Lucas Joao had given Reading a first-half lead with a shot from the edge of the penalty area that looked like being the game's only goal.

But McIntyre latched on to Michael Morrison's nod-down from a Baba Rahman free-kick to lift his side nine points clear of the relegation zone with four games to play.

The Swans have played the Royals on 85 previous occasions, with the overall match record equal - 34 wins apiece, with 17 draws.

Without doubt the most memorable match between the two sides was the 2011 Championship Play-Off Final:

Turning to Monday, with Reading on a high after their excellent away win against the Blades, and a win sufficient to guarantee Championship football next season, I’m expecting a hard match for the Swans.

However, if they perform as they did away at Cardiff and Millwall, they are more than capable of returning down the M4 with all 3 points.

    That said, I’m going for a 2-2 draw <cheers>

Cheers Taff.....hoping to get away and see my first game in three. Reading has been a pretty happy hunting ground for us in recent years and if we start off on the front foot we can win easily with over 2000 jacks in the away end cheering us on...

Well I’m off to this one with the family, hope for same score line as we had earlier up there this season.

Going for a 2-1 Swans win.

I was hoping we were improving on our consistency problem but Barnsley was a reality check. Reading will be going for it and I don't think we have the fight in us as a default, yet, anyway.

    3 - 1 home side.

I can see Reading having a go at us, so on the assumption we don't concede early on it's a 2-0 win for the Swans.

1-0 down to an early penalty! At least we have almost a whole game to get back into it.
