Those two MK goals could be a big help in the GD count up come the end of the season. Straw clutching here.
5th place is still most likely where we'll end up. However, automatic promotion isn't impossible (highly unlikely, but not impossible). We do however need to win all remaining games to finish on 88 points. If Wigan get another sigle point, then we won't be able to get ahead of them, we'll never catch up with their goal difference. I'm assuming they'll do that, so we're targeting second place. Rotherham are curently on 83, so we are ok as long as they only get 4 points or less from the remaining games. Burton Oxford Sunderland (already assumed a Sunderland win) Gillingham They need to lose against Oxford, but Burton or Gillingham are realy going to have to do us a big favour too. If they win the Burton game, then I think realistically our already slim chances of automatic promotion are stuffed. MK Dons also on 83, but with less games to play, need to get 4 points or less from Oxford Morcambe Plymouth Oxford again need to do us a favour and win that next game, I'd assume that they'll beat Morcambe, and then a draw or loss against Plymouth is possible Plymouth need to get 9 points or less from Sunderland (already assumed a Sunderland win) Wigan MK Dons so assuming we win our games we'll finish above them. Sheffield Wednesday need to get 11 or less from Crewe Wycombe Fleetwood Portsmouth there's a fair chance they'll drop points somewhere there, Wycombe or Portsmouth should manage at least a draw with them. We could also better their goal difference if we can get a couple of decent scorelines, meaning we'd be ahead of them even if they win all theirs (although by finer margins than us) and finally, Wycombe don't have enough games left to finish above us if we win our games. So, apart from the small matter of us having to win all our remaining games, we need to be supporting Oxford and hoping they can beat MK Dons and then Rotherham in their next 2 games. Burton need to beat Rotherham on Tuesday too. Good luck to the Millers and the U's. I don't really see automatic promotion actually happening, but if you just look at those games above, you can see there's a lot of losabe games for our rivals (Plymouth especialy so), and I don't see how we're not going to at least finish in the playoff places probably finishing 5th ahead of both Plymouth and Wycombe.
Thank you for the detailed summary mate, think your right (presuming we win) Rotherham's next game is make or break, i thought they would get a result yesterday against Ipswich....on the other hand in this league there is half no point looking at side thinking that will be a hard game or they will turn them over easy, most are unpredictable. Just look at Sheff Wed first half to second....although i will say MK conceded 3 very poor goals from a defensive point of view. All we can do is win Playoff wise personally id rather avoid Sheff Wed, just think they maybe at time can lift game when it matters, possibly with having that bit extra experience in the side
Watched it last night and the game echoed ours in many ways, only one team in it at first and then hanging on, but we lasted the game out in better shape than Sheffield, once Bannen went off they were toothless and close to not throw away a three goal lead never mind a two goal one, their third goal was a bit special mind but so were our first two. I would fancy us against them any time soon tbh.,
I hope Alex Neil is drumming into them how important it is to build on goal difference and not throw away leads with sloppy play. dropping to 7th should help the players understand the importance of that. Tomorrow’s game is massive, but until then enjoy your lamb!
On the downside, a draw and a defeat against Plymouth and Rotherham and we could end up 7th. Gonna be some very tight scrotums for the next two weeks.
You'd think so but having been relegated Crewe put in one of their best performances to beat Wimbledon who were desperate for points.
Wycombe aren't going to make the play-offs imo. By the time they play against Sheff Wed they'll probably be two points behind, worse GD and having played a game more. I can't see them keeping 11 men on the pitch during their game and their rough house tactics will get the better of them. The pressure will be well and truly on Ainsworth ... ... I'd really hate to have to go there in the play-offs, at least Sheff Wed actually play football. Wycombe's GD is one better than us, I'd hate to be at Morecambe checking my phone for a Burton goal.
Just received a text from my grandson and he's gone and gotten me a ticket in the home end at Morecambe, so that's 1602 Sunderland fans in so far
I hope you behave yourself mind - none of this jumping around when we score and especially none of those fisticuffs things!
