well we won and got the points, tough on oxford as they played some canny stuff but if you dont put the ball in the net you dont win and that was the difference. we started well, should have had a 2 goal cushion in the first 20 minutes which might have changed things a bit but after that our passing was woeful, matete was invisible and hoof ball returned, been mentioned by a few on here lately that roberts and clarke (while both doing well) are turning inside every time now with no end result and need to go on the outside more often. patterson is making me more confident in his ability every game with a few saves and one great stop today, a slightly different matete came out for the 2nd half but we still struggled to pass the ball yet the one time we actually put a good passing move together we scored...we need to do it more often and i dare say i am not the only one that thought we had blown the three points when stewart missed his chance at the end, my first thought was they are going to go up the other end and score now, and by christ did they come close. had far better performances but as has been said, all about the points now, we kept at it and got our rewards.
From the Oxford forum "4 absolute worldy saves, 2 stonewall penalties not given." 2 very good saves, two you'd expect and no chance of a penalty ... ... and Stewart missed a sitter. (I reckon the poster was a Mr K Robinson.) TBF Neil seemed calm all the way through and knew he had winners on the bench ... I like him.
I think they shaded it. More dangerous attacks, more concerns. Hit the bar once or twice. Our keeper made a ridiculous save. Think they did shade it but bloody over the moon we had that composure in the final third when it mattered
MOTM - has to be Patterson. So impressed with what he does. He's developing extremely well. Well done Patto
They're a good team who looked contenders for promotion. Going down there and winning is a great achievement and sets us up for a resurrection over Easter.
In all honesty mate, if we'd not screwed up against Doncaster and Cheltenham and won as we all expected, with those 6 more points on the board I think we could get automatic promotion. Rotherham's legs seem to be coming off and I'm still not 100% convinced about Wigan staying the course.
An Easter like the one we won promotion under RK., would be just the ticket and then storm the play-offs. OaU
