Swansea City v Derby County Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 9 April 2022 Kick off - 3:00pm Following two outstanding successive away victories at first, Cardiff, and then at Millwall, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a home match against ‘Wayne Rooney’s Derby County’. On Tuesday evening, Millwall's Championship play-off hopes suffered a setback as Joel Piroe's clinical finish gave the Swans a second consecutive victory at the Den following last season’s 3-0 win. The Lions' seven-game unbeaten home run came to an end after Piroe struck in the opening seconds of the second half. The defeat leaves Millwall four points adrift of the top six with six games remaining - they will need a strong finish to the season if they are to come through the congested race for a play-off spot. Swansea, who climb to 14th, probably / definitely (?) have too much to do to reach the play-offs, but Russell Martin's side are showing promising signs ahead of next season having claimed 10 points from their last four games. Last Saturday, Ravel Morrison struck the winner nine minutes from time to hand Derby a vital win over Preston, in a game where both sides ended with 10 men. The Jamaica international came off the bench to fire home a loose ball in the box and move the Rams off the bottom of the Championship. Preston defender Liam Lindsay was sent off just after the half-hour mark for hauling down Tom Lawrence as he went through on goal. The numbers were levelled up after 55 minutes when Derby's Max Bird was shown a red card for a tackle on Ben Whiteman. Following Reading’s 2-1 over Stoke on Tuesday evening, Derby find themselves 9 points adrift of safety with only 6 matches to play. The Swans have played the Rams on 47 previous occasions, winning 20, losing 18 and drawing 9. In last season’s corresponding fixture, the Swans ran out 2-1 winners, coming from behind to pick up all 3 points thanks to goals from Whittaker and Roberts: Turning to Saturday, Derby will be desperate to win given their precarious Championship position. As such, I’m hoping that their need for all 3 points will see them leave gaps at the back. 3-1 to the Swans
Thanks Taff for your excellent preview.....I would agree that Derby need a win and as such assuming we star on the front foot again the away side will collapse and leave gaps for us to score a few goals and win easily
Hoping for a comfortable 3-0 win. Seven games left, a run of games against 3 of the 4 relegation candidates followed by 4 games against promotion hopefuls
Thanks Taff. An early goal on Saturday will settle us down and force Derby to come out and I see a 3-1 win. If we can't break them down till late in the game then a tight 1-0 win.
Tim Robinson has been appointed as the referee for Swansea's clash with Derby County on Saturday. Robinson has overseen 31 games so far this season in all competitions, and has brandished 138 yellow cards and six red cards. He has so far only taken charge of one Swansea game - the 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers back in February. He will be assisted by Andrew Fox and Nigel Lugg. Sam Allison will be the fourth official.
Perhaps they will feel obliged to help us get our first penalty in our 40th Championship game this season ….
Not happy housebound today because of flu not covid so relying on tv but still confident that we can put another nail in the fall of Rooneys Derby...
Azzuri, as you’re at home, I just got 3 tips off a bookie for the Grand National. Sunshine. Moonlight. Good Times If they don't win, don't blame it on Sunshine, don't blame it on Moonlight, don't blame it on Good Times, blame it on the Bookie.
