My answer above was based on not understanding that you can be, for example, XXY. I wrongly thought that you can only have two and the combos be XX or XY. Happy to admit ignorance to that fact which discounts almost all of what I said above

It doesn’t escape that a complex issues seems to be being intentionally muddled further

Say you operate on the assumption that these republicans legitimately care about women’s sports (debatable). Their concern about who meets the definition of woman is absolutely not about whether someone gets in the ring and breaks someone’s skull having had a hysterectomy. It is whether they spent circa 20 years with a man’s body and testosterone and man’s muscle and strength development.

Which is why there is every chance some people would view certain retorts as being in bad faith

But I appreciate this is one example in a complex situation.

And it still doesn’t take away from the point about not even providing an answer and claiming that you are unable to. Even if you said “I’m not sure I could provide a 100% correct answer to a complex question” or the like. But claiming you can’t answer it at all?

Say what you will about the varying levels of answers from the senators in those tweets - they gave one. They may be “wrong” or not completely correct. But they didn’t say “I would need to hear from an expert”.

You can be born just X, XX, XXX, XY (male-presenting or female-presenting), XYY, XXY, XXYY, and some kinda muddled combinations in between.

This is not a difficult question, there are only two sexes, male and female. A woman is an adult human female. A man is an adult human male.
Sex is immutable so a man cannot ever become a woman. A woman cannot ever become a man

With reference to Intersex or DSD according to the NHS, this is about differences in sex development. DSD is a group of rare conditions involving genes, hormones and reproductive organs, including genitals. It means a person's sex development is different to most other people's. But people born Intersex/ DSD are still either male or female.

    https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/differences-in-sex-development/

The problem arises when you conflate sex with gender.

Helen Joyce in her book Trans: When Ideology Meets Reality, describes, 'gender identity' as a quasi-spiritual concept—almost like a soul—that is something between an internal essence, knowable only to its possessor, and stereotypically masculine or feminine in appearance and behavior.

I have real sympathy for young people who have been captured by this whole trans ideology and I do believe that there is a buck to be made here and that Big Pharma are well aware of that. As was Jo Swinson, former leader of the Lib Dems when her party accepted a £100,000 donation from Ferring Pharmaceuticals, makers of the puberty blocker Triptorelin, and for what she pledged to do in return.

Bit of a non issue for 99% of the population, but an obsession for the remaining 1% imo. I don't buy this "trans ideology" bollocks either tbh. Is there such a thing?

The irony, here, is that they're designated male or female based on phenotype. In other words, they are assigned male or female based on whether they present as a male or female, not some immutable idea of what makes a man or a woman.

The French presidential election is getting interesting, and by interesting I naturally mean utterly terrifying. Le Pen is pulling her usual 20ish percent in first-round polling, but she's suddenly pulling more of the run-off vote against Macron. Enough that she could potentially win.

This should be a real opportunity for LFI, the left-socialist party whose candidate is sitting third, to make a strong case that getting their candidate (Jean-Luc Melenchon) into the runoff ahead of Le Pen is the best way to stop her, and if all of the votes going to left/socialist/Green candidates coalesced behind him, they almost definitely would succeed. But the left is nothing if not capable of self-immolating over small differences, so the odds are good that those votes will instead be split six ways and the runoff will again be between Macron and Le Pen. Sigh.

So the left wing seem to behave pretty much the same in every country. And doubly so in those where they are really needed. At least you can set your clock by it

"The left wing, sensing a moment of triumph, chose to instead devolve into petty (and sometimes not so petty) infighting" is a tale that dates back at least to the origins of the term 'left wing' from the seating arrangement in the French Estates General circa the 1790s. You could set an atomic clock by it.

I knew what that was going to be even before the video loaded. A more accurate description of left-wing political organizing has never been made.

I haven’t joined in with the trans gender discussion simply because I don’t know enough about it, but Jacob Rees Mogg says that a woman cannot have a penis.
This raises the question. If a woman cannot have a penis what is his wife doing with a prick like him?

Do they not get that they should just do this anyway? Not hope no one finds out and then be forced to do so when they do?

How did they think no one would find out? The guy is angling to be next PM FFS. I know there are a few politicians who seem to be Teflon (Trump, Boris) but I don’t think Rishi is one of them somehow

I never had high hopes for him. He very grudgingly gave the support he was always going to have to give during the first covid wave. After prioritising businesses. I don’t think he deserves any credit for the furlough scheme despite it will be what he will hope to dine out on. He had no choice and still dragged his feet for as long as he could
