Playing for the under 18s for city and now the republic. Would be very popular if he breaks into the first team squad

If he has half the guts and work ethic as his dad he'll have a decent career.

He’s already signed a scholarship to become an u18 so he must be highly rated.

How does he qualify for the Republic?

    Go on I’ll say it
    It’s disappointing
I can’t understand anyone turning out for another country.

Partly agree. On the other hand, if he realises he isn't going to make an England squad, then it's a great way to get experience that he would otherwise be without. If his career / development really takes off, then nothing to stop him choosing England at a later stage?

I don’t think you partly agree at all
It’s not a flag of convenience for me
    I’m English
I couldn’t entertain playing for Scotland or Ireland or anyone but England

    Well there's a ****ing surprise!
You said "it's disappointing", and "I can't understand anyone turning out for another country". I partly agree with those words that you typed. Like most things in life, at least for most reasonable people, things are rarely black & white; there are 2 sides, and I also get the other side of it.
If you choose to see it in black & white, then fair enough. I don't. And I'd guess his dad doesn't either, as he's almost certainly guided him.

I'd be quite happy to play for a nice warm country, with lovely weather, beaches and pretty girls.

Well if England didn't want me anyway.

He's 16 isn't he? You can debate the merits or lack of of playing for Ireland but it's a child we're talking about. Got to give him a break surely.

When you were a kid did you dream of scoring goals for Ireland?

Can't say I did, but I'm sure I thought and did plenty of things that I now wouldn't. People grow. I don't get the Ireland thing either, but I think it's weird to be analysing the decisions of a 16 year old.

When I was 16, all I wanted to do was play guitar with The Clash. But if the Buzzcocks had come calling, I wouldn't have turned them down.
