Millwall v Swansea City Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - The New Den Date - 5 April 2022 Kick off - 7:45 pm Following their outstanding - and history making - 4-0 destruction of Cardiff in the South Wales derby, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a tricky looking trip to Play Off hopefuls Millwall. On Saturday, the Swans created history as they claimed a first ever South Wales derby double courtesy of an emphatic 4-0 win over Cardiff City. Michael Obafemi scored his eighth goal of the season from close range early on before Ben Cabango doubled his side's advantage in the second-half at the Cardiff City Stadium. Hannes Wolf then headed home his first goal for the club before Obafemi struck his second of the afternoon to seal a resounding victory for Russell Martin's men who moved five points clear of the Bluebirds in the Championship table. It was a resounding triumph for the Swans whose players and Management team etched their names into the history books while claiming their biggest win of the season so far. Whilst the Swans were thumping Cardiff, Championship play-off hopefuls Luton and Millwall were playing out an entertaining draw at Kenilworth Road. Millwall twice led with the returning Tom Bradshaw netting before Elijah Adebayo drew the hosts level. Benik Afobe then tapped in to give the visitors the lead again in the second half before Jake Cooper turned into his own net to level the score at 2-2. Luton stay fourth in a tight top end of the table, with Millwall in 10th, six points behind the Hatters. The Swans have played Millwall on 53 previous occasions, winning 22, drawing 12, but losing 19. In the corresponding fixture last season, the Swans ran out deserved 2-0 victors thanks to an Andre Ayew first half goal, backed up by a second half brace from Jamal Lowe Turning to Tuesday evening, I think that the Swans will have difficulty in reaching the ‘highs’ of Saturday and that the deserved celebrations will not yet be out of their systems. As such, I think that the Swans will lose 2-0 but expect a party at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday when ‘Wayne Rooney’s Derby County’ will be the visitors
Good preview Taff...yes it could be an after the Lord Mayors show but perhaps RM and the players could be up for the chance to end the season unbeaten....a Swans win...possibly
The boys are unpredictable and inconsistent with results so prob go to sleep in this one after giving it all against the diffs ? Never the less 2-1 us
Thanks Taff. Yes this is going to be a tough game but I hope the lads show some resolve so I am going for a 1-1 scoreline
A lot of adrenalin was used on Saturday (less physical effort was required due to the poor efforts by our lesser neighbours ) and with no injuries to speak of & a full squad available then hopefully its a 1-2 to us .
Ryan Manning returns from suspension as Russell Martin makes two changes for tonight’s meeting with Millwall. The Republic of Ireland international has served a four-match ban and is recalled at the first opportunity, while there is also a starting role for Jay Fulton. They come in instead of Jamie Paterson and Flynn Downes, with the latter missing out at The Den through injury. Andy Fisher continues in goal with a back three of Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton and Joel Latibeaudiere remaining in place after their fine showing in the weekend victory over Cardiff. Cyrus Christie and Manning take the wing-back slots, while Fulton joins captain Matt Grimes in midfield. Hannes Wolf is pushed forward into an attacking midfield role, and will link up with Joel Piroe and Michael Obafemi in the final third.
Millwall: Bartosz Bialkowski, Danny McNamara, Murray Wallace, Jake Cooper (captain), Jed Wallace, Tom Bradshaw, Scott Malone, George Saville, Benik Afobe, Billy Mitchell, Dan Ballard. Substitutes: George Long, Ryan Leonard, George Evans, Maikel Kieftenbeld, Oliver Burke, Sheyi Ojo, Tyler Burey.
Nearly a repeat of our first chance on goal aka Cardiff but same result , now at our end another corner
