It never rains, but it pours. I got a speeding ticket on the way home from the MK Dons game last year, so I put in an appeal and when it was eventually heard the Magistrate referred it up to the Court for trial! Muggins here now has to go to Luton in July for a full hearing. The crime? Doing 71 mph on the M1 in perfect driving conditions. Apparently, they had dropped the limit to 60 in a variable section, but I got clocked a mile down the motorway having just joined from the A5, so I didn't know. ****ers...
So sorry to hear that Sid i really hope you can get off on this one sounds like you have a decent case.Look on the bright side, you got away with plenty up till now
Yeah sorry mate but I'd be handing out a decent stretch for this. In seriousness though that is a massive inconvenience to you for what it is. While it would be admitting guilt would it not be beneficial to see if you can just pay the fine and do the speed awareness course (no points) rather than risk going down there costing a small fortune in fuel being found guilty and still being lumbered with the fine and the points. I know that's the way I would be going with it just up to you how much you wanna fight it I guess.
Them variable speed limit signs are quite frequent. Are you sure that there was none between you joining and where you were clocked speeding? If there wasn't you should have a strong case.
Fight it all the way mate. I recently challenged a speeding fine going into a temporary 20 near a school. It was during 'dropping off time' to be fair ... ... but it was during the school holidays. They wouldn't let it drop and were insisting until I asked to go to court and asked how I recovered costs for my imaginary solicitor. Good luck Sid.
Cheers, pal. I think it's just bloody persecution of the motorist. If they want us to use trains, fix the bloody network!
See if you can follow it on Google maps or anything like that. Was it a camera or a police car that got you?
Not sure how it works now but, when I worked in the courts and prison service, the “reintegration into society” payout you got when coming out used to be stupid money. I know of people who were inside for less than a month and got thousands. No big criminal record or anything either. But that was a long time ago now. Sid don’t read this and think “oh well that’ll be worthwhile” as it’s probably tuppence ha’penny now!!!
If it’s a motorway the speed limit is 70mph unless advised otherwise every 200 metres!! That’s the law (I think). Good Luck Bart
