Second half. Firstly a definite foul by Ayling and what a wonderful free kick from Ward-Prouse. Have read some nonsense criticising Meslier and the wall but that was just unstoppable. The only way to stop that goal would be to not give the foul away in the first place. After a very minor wobble following the concession but then we were back on the front foot, pushing for a winner and playing some nice stuff. Joffy unlucky not to get the decision for the penalty. Overall a very good performance and one which which bodes well for the future as we have a system and a shape wich seems to suit the players.
yeh… like they’d ever beat our men’s team! actually I think their women’s team would probably beat our men’s team
Agreed. Overall I thought we played well and was surprised at the criticism on here (though why I should be surprised **** knows )
Agreed and Dan James has been the big culprit, but Struijk has missed at least 3 simple headers from corners and missed shot which was easy. Llorente as he did yesterday missed an open goal with his head has also done that a few times. Klich has missed a shed load of shots he would have put away last season
It's interesting in that there is still very little contol of the game and we're still seeing end to end ping pong style games. The major difference is that because we're so narrow the players have less ground to cover to get back into a defensive shape. Still think the top sides will give us a hammering but that was expected last season too and sometimes it didn't happen. Hopefully we can stay up and then it's something to build on rather than the massive rebuild which will happen if we go down. So yes I guess is the answer to your question.
Yeh the jury’s out still obviously… I think his approach was always going to make for exciting games still which is a positive. The better sides will switch play on us to beat the zonal press but it’s better to offer gaps wide than through the middle, so will be interesting to see how we fair against Chelsea and city. As you say, likely a drubbing to city but we can maybe hope for a thorough beating rather than a capitulation.
This is what's worrying me over the next month. April Fixtures. Leeds Watford (a) 9th April Crystal Palace (a) 25th April Man City (h) 30th Aptil Burnley Everton (h) 6th April Norwich (a) 10th April West Ham (a) 17th April Southampton (h) 21st April Wolves (h) 24th April Watford (a) 30th April
Based on burnleys season to date average points per game they’d be expect to pick up 5 or 6 points max. We’ll be ok if we beat Watford but it really is a must win game now in my opinion
Yup Watford have a fair few winnable 6 pointers too. next game critical for us. If we win it takes Watford out of the equation, if we lose we’re still very much in the doo dah Everton have games in hand but a really tough run in. Could be tight
We're almost certainly going to play Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea in consecutive games. Potentially 3 defeats in a row at an absolutely crucial stage of the season. Reasons to be cheerful...one...two...three
