The most interesting thing for me today, in the old horse racing world, isn't on the track but in the sales ring at Tattersalls Ascot. That gorgeous grey gelding Petit Mouchoir is being sold. Fascinating to see who he goes to and for how much. As an 11YO he's obviously not going to be the force of old but just over a year ago he was 2nd at the Cheltenham Festival off a whopping155. Stepney Causeway also goes through the sales ring and he too would, potentially, be a lovely purchase. He was prolific for the Skelton's, this time last year, and was only 7 lengths off Edwardstone, in November, but his form has tailed off somewhat since Christmas. A change of scenery and the right hands (or even the right 'magic hands') though could completely reinvigorate and revitalise the old boy.
It's tomorrow actually. SKYACE and CAPTAIN DRAKE both probably worth a mention too. Lower down the ladder I rather like the look of one of Andrew Baldings that has only managed to get to the track three times. It's Ascot so you can never really be sure what the sales prices are going to be like. My representative is refusing to go...!
Jim Crowley makes the trip to Kempton tonight for one ride for the sister in law. 7.00pm - Taqseemaat 100/1 with 365 Worth a small play e/w I feel. I'm on Madgwicks pair in singles and an e/w double tonight too.
Yep, sorry, got my dates mixed up!!! Is the Balding horse Fiesta De Vega??? He's obviously had his problems (5YO who has only ran three times) but that mark of 75 looks most exploitable. When he won his maiden Fiesta De Vega had Roberto Escobar behind him (now rated 106). And on top of that FDV's dam was a Listed winner. Yep, the sales prices could indeed be anything. That's why am so fascinated to see what Petit Mouchoir makes. Could be a sizable sum or alternatively someone could buy the old boy for a very modest amount.
The Balding horse is FIESTA DE VEGA. A very nice type but as you say has obviously not been the easiest to train. Still could have bucket loads of potential though. You wouldnt want to second guess a price tag for him!
At 11 and seemingly on a downward curve you wouldnt think anyone would be looking to break the bank for Petit Mouchoir
