In general I agree with this, but I still cringed when I saw the tweet. A lot of people outside of the City talk about it like it's this Rugby League mad place and everything else is secondary. That's not really true and I think it makes Hull seem like a bit of a backwater. Anything from within the City promoting that stereotype makes me cringe a bit.

Potentially being the key word. I don't think there's any suggestion that the fair is an issue currently, or even that developing that site is necessarily on the cards. And even when the previous owners said they definitely did want to develop it, they never actually made any attempt to do so that got as far as the fair being an issue, so it's all very academic.

It does make you wonder if the council is starting to look at ways of getting money in. They have sold Rovers ground now, so maybe Acun's possible plan might have come at an opportune time. He certainly will not rub them up the wrong way as the Allam's clearly did?

They did develop it slightly and impact on the fair slightly.
They put up gates and refused to let anyone use the access road behind the stadium which used to be used for the fairground workers caravans and any other support / services / checking etc.
Not sure if that affected where they actually pitch up or just the access to it (it felt like it moved further towards Anlaby Rd, but I may well be wrong on that)

No details have been published this week as far as I know, but when the deal to buy the stadium was initially announced a couple of years ago, it was expected to be about £2m.

Compared to the cost of building something like that, if it's anywhere near that cost, KR have got a bargain

A lot of what's there was built by KR, who already had a 250 year lease, presumably that was taken into account.

Good business as well owning your own ground. Helps secure their future. Very much a club that understands tough financial times in the past.

Fair points, I'd still be pretty pleased if I was on the kr side of the deal.

Would be interesting to see what value the council would put on the mkm....

I would expect something like £10m as a stand-alone deal, but it could well be less if it's part of a plan to redevelop the area.

I was thinking £10-12m max as it's pretty much unsellable to anyone bar us, if we decided to leave to build our own then the council would be left with a tenant who can't afford , an asset that needs a lot of money spent on it and which almost nobody else would be interested in buying. I think the interest from us is gaining speed due to the potential issues with FC and their affordability for their side of the agreement etc.

Hopefully sensible heads can sort it

Not mentioning the sizable business rates for the MKM also that the council wouldn't get!

If someone was prepared to wait for a return it would be very attractive once the SMC lease expires. They would then be in a position to charge City and Hull FC an economic rent. As its a community asset it'd be worth the community buying it as we'd get first dibs.

Why would the Council sell the stadium knowing they'd have to help Hull FC find a new home?

Again, I already explained why I asked the question as the original comment was the MKM and surrounding area.
