I believe Asda, Sainsburys and BP passed on the fuel rebate, the others didn't. Please correct me if I'm wrong, certainly the two petrol stations I use the most haven't changed. So if this is right, the other fuel retailers simply took the government money? And nobody is saying anything? Did this really happen?
I hope that ending was either doctored or a joke that was cleared up afterwards All the way through I thought who the hell has taken over Croydon's account. I've seen many things from you, but sentimentality, not once.
Paid 1.57 for unleaded yesterday in Asda. No idea though if that was lower or higher than the day before.
Last time I looked there were no price controls in this country so every petrol station is entitled to charge whatever they think the market will bear irrespective of costs and taxes. So of course it happened. Other market philosophies than capitalism are available though.
Interesting what you said about market philosophies. I was recently thinking that monetarism (as I understand it) is taking a bit of a battering (and of course I may understand it wrong). But it seems to me a lot of that philosophy is tied to controlling inflation by the money supply. But what happens when inflation starts to get out of control regardless of that (and it may be heading that way now). Firstly it's done so with the economy under the "guardianship" of monetarism, secondly what can monetarism actually do when inflation takes hold? Increase interest rates massively? That will go down well on top of everything else people are suffering these days!
I was in Cornwall this week passed a garage on Tues petrol £1.76 ,wed £1.81 , thurs £ 1.76 did they get wind of the change ? Cornwall, home of the carpark charges , even in the ****iest village in the middle of nowhere, we had to carry at least a tenner in change every day , home of the red faced nutcase trying to overtake you in a beaten up Volvo estate at 60mph on a B road , that's just the woman
This is important stuff. I think that card is wrong. I don't remember him ever saying that. Perhaps there should be a poll?
Thomas was 13 years senior to Philips. Philips copied Thomas’ catchphrases; he intentionally mimicked the manner and speech of Thomas when playing the “cad”. Philips used “Ding Dong” for his character in the much repeated “Carry On Nurse”, so perhaps that’s why some associate it with him in particular. But he also copied “Hello” and “I say” amongst others. So it’s a circular argument.
I think the only time I ever enjoyed mainstream Hollywood movies was when I was about eight plus or minus a year or two. Tony Curtis was usually the hero and Terry Thomas was usually the villain. I remember how happy I was when I saw Terry Thomas in a movie, because I knew it was going to be funny. I can't think of anyone to this day who did a better heel turn.
The first film I recall seeing at the cinema was 'Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines' which I still love, only bettered by the sublime 'How to Murder Your Wife' - a film so good that it could have been a Mel Brooks production.
Tony Curtis starred in one of my favourite movies, The Great Race, although it was Jack Lemon who was brilliant in that. Loved it as a kid - but have seen it several times over the years and it's always a joy!
If you're talking Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon it has to be Some like it hot for me , not sure how many times I have seen it but enjoy it every time Lemon has to have one of the greatest collection of films , The Apartment, Glengarry Glenross, The odd couple , 12 angry men , The out of towners , Irma la Douce, Mr Robert's, Missing ,JFK not many actors can compare their output to his
