Thought it was april the first...everything is "fantastic" here, but not good enough for him, a classic case of a man who believed his own publicity..how many of our ex managers who have walked out on us have really prospered? king midas in reverse..

Any more ex-managers the media can talk about?

Brian Little just got sacked from Gainsborough recently, maybe he fancies it? What's Frank McLintock up to?

Ian Holloway has been linked with the job aswell. I dont think he would be stupid enough to come back but what ever we think about Ollie he is a motivator but he couldnt motivate the crap that took us down

I have more chance of getting the job then Mark McGhee

'Cheer up Mark McGhee ..... '

Anybody else noticed about Ian Holloway - seems to alternate between being successful at 1 club, then failing miserably at the next. Now if he would sign for Direby, Forest or the chavs, get sacked - we should sign him on immediatel afterwards.

Maybe Holloway is better with the smaller clubs working on a shoestring budget. He worked wonders with nothing at Plymouth and Blackpool and when Mandaric gave him so cash and blew it. He signed some shocking players Barry Hayles, Ben Alnwich, Zsolt Laczko, Lee Hendrie, Gabor Bori, Kelvin Etuhu, David Bell

I will let him off for Oakley and Howard as over time they have proven their worth to us and looked quality signings on the face of it

    What? Why? Eh?

Who on Earth though that he might even be semi-seriously considered? Someone's having a laugh at our expense.

I think we should go for Big Fat Racist Ron with Richard Keys as his assistant. Good role models the players and fans can look up to.

In all seriousness, this waiting is killing me. This decision is HUGE - potentially our whole future may rest on it if the Thais start to get impatient if we fail to get promotion. It's got to be an outstanding candidate, but after O'Neill, no-one really stands out a mile for me.

Mark Hughes. He did a good job at Blackburn and has had lots of money to spend before at Man City so he wouldn't be overwhelmed by the cash

Today's odds have Lee Clark leading the field......

    13/8 – Lee Clark
    7/2 – Mark Hughes
    5/1 – Roy Keane
    13/2 – Billy Davies
    8/1 – Martin O’Neill
    22/1 – Dave Jones
    22/1 – Gordon Strachan

Yeh it's a massive decision, one of the biggest in our history perhaps.

It goes Di Matteo, Davies, Hughes, Curbishley in that order for me. I don't know if I could stand anyone else.

I would be deeply unhappy if it's Hughes or Davies.

Hughes and Davies would be two managers high on my list. Hughes has proved himself in the Premier League so he should be able to do a job in the Championship and he knows English football well enough to know what the Championship is like. Di Matteo if we could tempt him away from Chelsea would be good as well. The two outstanding candidates for me but wouldn't be disappointed with Curbishley, McDermott, Davies or Clark though.

I can't stand Davies and he just seems to cause distention where ever he goes. After I worked with him I can see why - he's an egotist. Those comments he made about not wanted to stand in Cloughie's shadow at Forest and outstrip his achievements were madness. He's never proven to be anything other than ordinary anyway.

Hughes sounds good on paper, but like Sven, I'm not sure about his knowledge of this league. Also think he would be demanding a lot of cash for yet again another fairly average manager.

Di Matteo would be a gamble, but something just rings true about him. Could get us playing good football too.

Curbishley has had a degree of success, so wouldn't be too disheartened by him. Also seems to be part of the old boy network, so we may get some interesting loan signings.

    You worked with him?!

Well I wouldn't say his personality makes him an attractive proposition but from the options available I think he's very decent. Derby and Forest were both just above the relegation zone when he took over, within the next season he had them challenging for the autos, and ended up finishing 3rd with both. The Premiership was too big a step for Derby at that time, but he was only given 14 games (comparable to a certain someone ;) ). Forest played some absolutely beautiful football under him (I was at the 5-1 game and it was more them being good than us being bad imo) and they would have gone up if it wasn't for West Brom (managed by Di Matteo) and Newcastle, who were both a class above everyone else. In fact for some time they were looking as if they would hang on to second.

He has his faults, his whinging about money and signings would not have helped his players for example, and Forest seemed to bottle it somewhat both times, especially the first season, though I think that's a reflection of the squad punching above it's weight, as it seems now that it was (Forest fans have said so themselves). As for being an egotist, there are plenty of great managers who fit that description, including someone you mention in your post.

I partly agree about Hughes, he doesn't have Championship experience, nor does he have experience of winning anything or actually 'achieving' anything. However he did do really well at Blackburn and OK at Fulham, he wouldn't be my first choice and I don't think he's got the potential someone like Di Matteo has, but he's pretty decent.

Curbishley wouldn't be a terrible appointment.

Di Matteo for me too, if MON really isn't interested.
