Tbh - I’ve always wondered about commercial side of things, how does a sports village generate enough income to make it viable especially during the week days?? A hotel / casino makes far more sense
I don't think buying it would make much difference to any plans to alter or expand it, perhaps beyond a return on investment, which could be negotiated anyway.
I'd argue a sports village either needs to be expensive to make back its costs - which negates the point of making it accessible to the community, or run at a loss - which the leisure centres already do. I've never been overly convinced about the business case for it, but I do think one would work if you integrate the community pitches with the academy/ladies teams.
Ownership gives them more freedom I expect It’s all pie in the sky currently I wanna see some money down from acun
On the bright side, at least there's no shortage of candidates for one of the key roles that every village must have. We may need to amend the class bit...
Develop the land around The MKM to include a smaller rugby facility with reduced financial commitment? Win win!
Allams took it away from Community use did he not? What are the chances of AI opening it back up to the community again do you think?
I think that depends on whether their aim with this sports development is to move all the training facilities to next to the stadium, if they do, I suspect it would remain purely for our use.
If the council can get the area developed and all the developer wants is an extended lease, they'll think it's Christmas.
I remember the story of Craven Park getting built by, I think Dransfield, they did all the work apart from putting the seats in and finishing the internals, the reason given, they didn’t quote for it and no one checked, HKR had to pay out a stack of money to finish the stadium, which skint them.
Our first season in the Prem the average was 24,816 with a high of 24,945 v Man Utd a low of 24,282 v Wigan even the next season was an average of 24,390 our gates stood up well both seasons, even after relegation we averaged 21,168 and that was the season the Allams took over.
Your right, the council should be doing absolutely everything they can to make it happen IF that's all that's wanted by the developer, but I highly doubt knowing what we know about our new owner that it will be the case
