A bit before my time. I started going down to Filbo about 1976/77 when we used to get the odd free ticket at my Primary School to sit in the good ol' double decker. I have heard of him though RIP
I remember him well from the semi final in 1969 up at Hillsborough. Provided the knockdown for the winner for his 'mate' Allan Clarke. Apparently they hardly ever spoke to one another.
My main memory was of him scoring a goal at Filbo in front of the kop ... a diving header that meant he got a boot in the mush and a right bloody nose ... what a warrior ...
Another 2 from the treatment table returning today. Great to see Evans back and what a goal from Timmy As is the way this season, Roger's confirmed the injury Ndidi sustained on Thursday is one which could rule him out for the rest of the season. And Kasper looked in serious discomfort at the end today. Not good when Ward has just had an operation and won't return this season. You couldn't make this **** up
Unfortunate that it looks like Wilf's season is over ... but Papy Mendy was arguably MOTM today and with JJ, Little Wes and Jonny all coming black, losing Wilf's aerial capability is less of a concern
Not too worried about that as Soumare is and, whilst he's still getting to grips with the pace of the Prem, the European pace will be just what he is used too ... potentially a big chance to make his mark.
Fingers crossed he'll play a forward pass soon. Good to see the determination from the refreshed back line on Sunday, really boosts the fans and the rest of the team.
Cags has only scored twice for us, both against Man Utd. Own Goal hasnt score for us this season either and normally good for three or four a season so due. Good omens I think.
What a difference it makes having Fofana back. He exudes confidence and capability - apart from that one pass that nearly let Fernandes in. No more faffing about passing aimlessly across the back, we just got the ball forward more quickly. We looked far more secure on corners. And Castagne and JJ give us more quality as well. We just need to get Kasper to improve his distribution. Some of it is truly awful and puts the target under pressure in a dangerous place. There was some really slick inter-passing and great movement off the ball and we were definitely unlucky not to come away with all 3 points. Man U had the rub of the green on the 2 crucial VAR decisions. McTominay was lucky to stay on the pitch, and I don't think Varane ever knew where the ball was under Nacho's challenge. He was just sticking out his leg to stop Nacho from getting past him. If it had been a clear and obvious foul the ref would have blown. As well as KDH played (and he did get through a mountain of work, and the challenge to win the tackle that led to the goal was brilliant), I did just wonder whether we could have brought on Lookman wide right and put Maddison where KDH was. Most everything went to Barnes down the left and we could have pressured them from both sides. When Maddison did start to come more central he was far more influential. Just hope we can remain injury free from now until the end of the season and get a good run-in. It might even change Youri's mind.
Thought Mendy was excellent as well. Always made himself available to receive the ball, and I cant think of a time he gave it away.
Having both Evans and Forfana back emphasised why we've struggled defensively this season. Despite Martin Tyler informing me every 60 seconds about our terrible set piece record, we didn't look vulnerable yesterday. Man u were there for the taking yesterday, can't help but feel disappointed we didn't capitalise. A fit Vardy would've had a field day. Games like that really make you lament on how our season couldn't gone without the injuries. Although a strong finish and 7th isn't out of the question plus we've a European Quarter Final yet.
Totally agree, Barwell. I actually feel more confident when he's on the ball than I do when Wilf gets it. We're lucky he chose to stay around when he wasn't getting any game time. He never lets us down. I'm not sure what this snippet is all about: Leicester are considering whether to sell their £50m-rated England midfielder James Maddison, 25, so they can reshape their squad this summer. (Mail on Sunday).
Cant see us selling Youri and Maddison in the same window. Of the two I would rather Youri went. If we are honest he hasnt really set the world alight this season. His creativity is not like it was. KDH could easily slot into the middle and Maddison can go on to be one of our great players and certainly with his age and the other young defenders on long term contracts a great core to build from.
I hope the National Trust don't have a buy-back clause on him. Fantastic, confident performance from him yesterday. A true leader by example. Do we have to find a starting place for Lookman on Thursday? He is starting to show his potential now and causes defences problems with his speed and finishing. A very classy and composed finish yesterday. What will our tactics be? PSV's position in their domestic league indicate they are a strong team. Do we go for first half containment and then go for it second half? Always a dangerous plan if you get caught cold and concede early, as opponents can shut up shop and stifle you. Or do we have to try and take the game to them from the start. The one concern for me is the potential lack of potency from Daka and Nacho.
