Personal preference isn't sexist, mad that you can't understand that. I prefer local people telling me the local news. I'm sure other journalists are professional and competent but I don't like to hear a Brummie or Scouser telling me what's happening in the NE. Does that make me prejudiced ... ... of course not, it's just a preference. If I openly campaigned against it, and protested at the studios you might have a case. The OP isn't actively demanding action, or targeting Broadcasting House, just stating his preference. Your reaction is typically hysterical and disproportionate I'm afraid
But if a world-renowned Brummie broadcaster and a local lad off the street applied for the newsreader job, and the station gave it to the unqualified local person, that would indeed be discriminatory. It's an extreme example to make the point, but it is effectively what the OP is saying. "Women shouldn't be allowed to commentate on men's football" (to reiterate, the OP implies that this is regardless of actual talent in the field). The comparison is also a little disingenuous because "accent" isn't a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, and Brummies haven't been subject to discrimination for literally thousands of years, unlike women. If a director of a company chose to hire only white employees because his "personal preference" was to see white skin, would that be okay in your eyes?
Of course it is but A) that wouldn't happen and B) people aren't ever hired purely because of their accent ... so I'm not sure what your point is. The OP clearly isn't saying, '"Women shouldn't be allowed to commentate on men's football" you just want to see it that way because otherwise your argument is build on straw. He's saying nothing of the sort but is simply expressing his opinion and his preference. He's not an employer, isn't affecting anything and isn't spearheading any campaign. You're arguing against discrimination but the OP isn't actually discriminating is he. "If a director of a company chose to hire only white employees because his "personal preference" was to see white skin, would that be okay in your eyes?" WTF are you screeching about now! You're actually making a comparison with blatant criminal racist discrimination and someone's harmless preference. Seriously I was right first time ... ... you're hysterical, blinkered and see things that aren't there because you'll grab any opportunity to climb up on your high horse to make accusations. Admit it, you just enjoy insulting people and being judgemental.
Just reposted your message to remind @David Moyes' Stupid Face what you actually said, not what they imagined you said. TBH someone basing their entire argument on how people should be decent and kind shouldn't really have a username that deliberately targets and insults someone with an unfortunate personal appearance.
On another note... Just watching Newcastle Falcons v Leicester Tigers.... female referee. Football has had women running the line but refereeing,?
There was an item on 1st woman referee in league a couple of months back. I can't remember the detail but I seem to remember she was from Washington.
I bloody love womens football nearest I’ve seen to someone with tits as big as that was Alan Foggin at Scunthorpe
Weird take. All I did was point out that casual sexism is still prevalent amongst football fans, and gave a few examples from this thread (one of which being the OP). "Women shouldn't be allowed to commentate on men's football" is exactly the implication of the OP. He literally says that seeing women on a men's football show made him so angry he nearly choked . Fine, you can't see what I was getting at with the comparison. Let's make it easier. If I were to make a thread saying: "Nearly choking on my sausage sandwich here, switched on BBC Football Focus and two match reviews by two black men screeching... then back to the studio presented by another funny sounding black man. Then off for a chat with a Brentford player... you guess, interviewed by a smiling black man... Glad I don't watch this crap to often." Would you not consider that to be a tiny bit racist?
TBH your insistence on comparing the OP's preference for male commentators to blatant racism is idiotic and not worth discussing. You keep rewriting the OP's comments to something entirely different. You're a very strange person.
Literally all I did was replace "women" with "black men". If my version is racist, then the OP is sexist. That is an undisputable fact. I refuse to believe that you cannot understand this.
Can anybody imagine the furore if there was a programme called "Loose Men", where a panel of blokes sat there slagging women off ? Or the uproar if there were adverts on tv where women were too stupid to use a washing machine or other household appliance for example? Okay the other way round though. To paraphrase George Orwell "All genders are equal, only some genders are more equal than others"
The OP isn't saying he prefers white men to black men. Why would one know less about the men's game than the other. If he had a preference to white men that would be racist as it would suggest their knowledge of the men's game would be superior based entirely on the colour of their skin. He's saying that, while commentating on a specifically male sport, he prefers commentary by men who would have experience of playing that game and who's knowledge may well be superior. Women's football is quite clearly inferior to men's football, no one can deny that. Black players aren't necessarily inferior to white players. I refuse to believe that you cannot understand this.
Sorry but this really doesn't make sense. Football is football. Why on Earth would Alex Scott not be just as qualified to commentate on the game she played for 15 years as, say, Robbie Savage? It's nonsensical. And even if we ignore that, 2/3 of the OPs gripes were with presenters and interviewers - two roles which have absolutely no need of professional playing experience, and are often filled by non-footballing men (e.g. Dan Walker, Jeff Stelling, Manish Bhasin, Mark Chapman, etc, etc. The list goes on...)
She's played women's football which, by every criteria, is a different game. It's inferior to the men's game ... ... or do you disagree, yes or no.
