Cody Drameh just got another assist for Cardiff who were in the bottom 3 when he arrived. Now well safe and in 17th place on 46 points. Will Jesse want him or will we sell him for big cash?

Bearing in mind we barely had an academy under Cellino the club could and will benefit hugely from the 23's financially long term.

Phillips, Meslier, Struijk would all go for big money now.

Others we could easily sell at a decent profit with sell on clauses would include Dramah, Summerville, Greenwood, Bate, Cresswell. The rest would all have sell on clauses inserted to any transfer.

Youth teams are huge money spinners in done right.

    Wales online….

    Cody Drameh 9 (star man)
This lad is special, frightening, even. Was on it from minute one and caused Stoke all sorts of bother all night. Played a key part in Hugill's goal.

First three would leave a big gap. Plus only one of them is home grown

Stagnating in a Leeds squad where he wasn’t getting time in the U23s because he was required on our bench yet rarely leaving that bench.

To be honest, can you name a Leeds player that hasn’t looked lost at least half a dozen times this season? If he’d never played for Leeds and fans were seeing him play for Cardiff plenty would be saying “that’s the lad we should go after”.

Don't agree as we should be moving on from that standard of player. We need to set our sights higher than him or the disaster that is firpo. Firpo was rated a better player by bielsa.

As Ive said before, the damage done inside the club through first team injuries this season is massive. In September our 23s were sitting 2nd and just beaten Liverpool 0-4. Then we lost every top 23 player to sit on the first team bench. Then we saw loss after loss and a relegation fight as U18s were standing in for top 23 talent. The last 3 weeks has seen first teamers return and top 23s going back and it looks like we have just about saved the season and will stay in Prem2Div1. Yes Joffy has stayed with the first team but some kids have stepped up too like Max Dean.

This summer the 4 top 23s we bought a couple of years ago will sorted out. Looks like Joffy is now first team, which leaves Greenwood, Drameh and Summerville to sort. Even though they pretty much lost a season of development its no good keeping them for the 23s, they either need integrating to the first team or selling. Hope Drameh is retained, but can see Greenwood being sold Summerville wanted to leave in January and unless he is going to replace Raphinha then he will be gone. Remember we also have Poveda who has lost a season through injury. Cresswell may have another year as skipper but Nohan Kenneh could also move to the first team or take over as skipper?

Bate, Miller, Klaesson, Hjede and McGurk will all stay as 23s with Mateo Joseph Fernandez

At this stage there’s no point in trying to guess which first team players will leave, which u23’s will move up to the first team etc as we don’t know which division we’ll be playing in.

Home grown academies just don't exist these days. Yes, homegrown talent will provide a few players but the vast majority of academy players will be bought in. Its almost a business inside a business.

Look at the money City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Scum make from buying young kids and then selling them for profits later on.

That's the model we tried to replicate back in 2018 and we are starting to see the fruits of our labour now.

Take Cresswell for example. If the club decide he could leave as he was behind Koch, Llorente, Struijk, Cooper and Ayling for centre back slots he would command a fee of around 10 million already due to his reputation as one of the outstanding young centre backs in England. Factor in the extra clauses for international caps and first team apps etc and we could end up with 15 million for a kid that has played a couple of games for us. If the club decide he is better than Struijk and we let Struijk go then he would command a similar fee due to the amount of first team experience he has with us.

How does the academy pay for itself? Jack Clarke probably funded it for the last two years on his own. That's without the lads on loan who we get paid loan fees for.

Seems if you get an international u21 kid you can charge millions in loan fees when you send them out.

I know the loan fee for Nketiah was in the millions. Not sure on Ben White fees. It would be interesting to know how much Cardiff have paid us for Dramah for the second half of the season?

The model for most clubs is to loan the kids out. Take a loan fee, let their reputation develop (hopefully) and then sell or retain depending on circumstances. I never had a problem with the orta model (learnt from monchi @ Seville) of buy young and cheap and sell on for profit. My beef was it being introduced ahead of first team investment whilst we were in the championship.

The other issue is it didn’t lend itself well to the bielsa small squad preference - where the u23s get pulled to the first team bench.

it’s a numbers game and all about scale.
Look at Chelsea. Their u23 team is crap. They don’t care about it… Because all the good ones are out on loan.

Milky nails it here because Man Utd and Liverpool the same and our 23s have smashed both this season. However a couple of seasons back our U17s were drawn against Man Utd and although we did well, especially Nohan Kenneh we were smashed easily. Those U17s from Man Utd are all out on loan whereas ours are in the 23s now or released.
