Nearly choking on my sausage sandwich here, switched on BBC Football Focus and two match reviews by two women screeching... then back to the studio presented by another funny sounding woman. Then off for a chat with a Brentford player... you guess, interviewed by a smiling woman... Glad I don't watch this crap to often.
It's a right minefield commenting on this. I'm not against women's football, although I do think they won't be taken seriously by the majority of football fans until they make the goals smaller, but there's an agenda at play here to try to force the women's game onto us as an equal right now when it's nowhere near as developed as men's football is, and there's an absolute refusal to acknowledge shortcomings that could easily be fixed and improve the women's game enormously because everyone's terrified of being called a sexist. All the positive discrimination in the world doesn't hide the fact that it's currently a vastly inferior product.
Puts me off as well , another thing is the constant confusion caused by mixing up womens and men's football at all levels, drives me mad.. same with the panels it seems compulsory to have women represented, but its all over dont get me started about Fisal Islam and Mr chow on Newsnight PC madness is here to stay. The BBC needs a shiek up.
Good. There’s far too many men, boring (Shearer), smug (Lineker) and godawful Jenas. I could go on…….of course I could I’m a woman lol! Girl power!!! When I went to matches regularly I’d say at least a quarter of the crowd were female, why shouldn’t we have our say?
Don’t really mind that women are being involved in the commentary, some of them are really good and know their stuff however I know what you mean about 1 or 2 of them. All of them are better than the likes of Chris Sutton etc. My biggest annoyance is that sky sports no longer show WSL or whatever next to the teams on the score updates. That’s got nothing to do with equality, it’s common sense.
If they have the ability to speak well, I have no problem whatsoever with women working in punditry/commentary etc. Sure some would do better than the vast majority of the gormless that's the broadcasters have been shuffling around the last twenty years. I don't want to hear about women's football though. Just no ****ing interest in it whatsoever.
Good points , for my sins I am forced to listen to Total Sport, nightly and some of the callers are beyond belief, the exception here are the female callers of both teams who put the men to shame, the only male exception is Albert from Wooler, his chats with Junn Anderson about Newcastle are first class, the rest of the show is unbearable even by local radio standards with Simon Pride and Steve Howey setting new levels of Total Incompetence..
Well I certainly paid for mine as soon as I was old enough! I don’t think women should be involved just to make up the numbers, they should be there on merit, but the same applies for having ex-players! Just because you’ve played the game doesn’t give you the automatic right to be a good pundit. There’s far too many annoying men, mostly former footballers, involved. I live in the USA so I don’t see much of the BBC sport but SKY!!
I'm not sexist whatsoever....I used to coach young lads and lasses for years. However, the female pundits, including TV Presenters and ex-players, seem to have invented different tactical terms... Like, 'The transition from defence to attack'....and, 'shooting the ball into the net'
Perhaps 'cos you're bloody women (that have got now't to do with men's (proper) football) The women that commentate on proper football are obviously hired to fill a quota, 'cos they've quite obviously got no idea about it and just use 'buzz phrases' 'cos they think that they should/need to
Is it okay if they are Trans Women? Both bases covered. Ie per the joke on another thread, they are all arseholes (both men and women have them)
I also ****ing hate clicking on a news article about cricket or football seeing "England win" or "Sunderland draw" etc. I go in and it's about the women. I find it aggressively irritating that they've removed the label from women's football or women's cricket etc. Add men's to the football/cricket tag. Just differentiate please. They are different. It's just poor communication.
I watch Jeff Stelling's programme on Sky when I can and notice that there are more and more women reporting from grounds all round the country. The question I have to ask is should they not be at home getting the tea ready for their spouses coming home from the match? No wonder the world is going to hell on a handcart
I find it hard to watch Sky Sports these days...I see no reason why women should not concentrate on women's sport only and it would be good for Women's cricket, Football and Rugby to have their own channel, then if and when their product becomes watchable they will get sponsors, advertising and more importantly viewing figures.
Women's football is appalling to watch IMO. Awful, and no amount of prompting will change my mind. They need to be playing on smaller pitches and with smaller goals to mitigate against the obvious physiological differences to men. They can talk about it all day, it doesn't matter to me as I hardly ever watch the babble. Men or women it is almost universally inane ; "Just how good does that feel". " How important was that?" Infantile nonsensical pap.
