Forward Nicholas Bignall signs on loan from Reading http://www.wycombewanderers.co.uk/page/LatestNews/0,,10430~2493251,00.html
Not a very good CV. Has only played for L1 sides or lower except once, when playing against a L2 side. Lets hope he can score against top L1 sides.
Not exactly prolific either (4 goals in 47 apps although he didn't start all of those). Seems an odd choice to bring in.
I don't know much about him, but he appears to fit the bill in terms being big, strong and quick which is something we've needed up front for a while. Will hopefully see a bit of him tonight.
Possibly brought in as a target man for Beavon to play off - definitely something we have been missing. Let's see how it goes tonight !
I don't think big, strong, quick is what we necessarily what we need as we have had plenty of useless strikers in the past with those attributes. We need a player with the ability to the put the ball in the back of the net. As for Bignall, he is 5'10, hardly big, in fact that is relatively small these days! His scoring record isn't exactly impressive so whether or not he is the answer we will only see with games. However he is very young, with all the loan spells being before the age of 21. Let's hope he has learnt a bit from then!
I'm just a bit worried he has played for so many clubs in the lower leagues. Presumably no-one has wanted to keep in on?
Agreed on paper he doesn't look the best of loan signings. However, we must remember that Waddock's been hunting high and low for strikers that fit the bill and he says himself it's been very difficult. Add to this the fact he's based round the corner and this is what we end up with. I'm a bit concerned too at the lack of appearances and goals for the previous 5 loan clubs (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Bignall), this suggests (Although may not be the case of course) that he's never spent more than a month there, and that means clubs haven't renewed the loan deal. That may be for other reasons but may be because they didn't want to. THe bottom line though, I don't care what his previous record's like, as long as he can turn it on for his period with us, and because of that I'll give him my 100% support from the start. Hope he does the business for us this evening.
When he was warming up, I assumed he was wearing an oversized Puffa jacket - apparently not - the guy's built like a milk float. Looks quick, too.
I don't think he's anything like Pittman. And I don't think we should have kept Pittman either. Has he scored in League 2 yet this season? Bignall looked promising in his short amount of time on the pitch last night. I agree that he's unlikely to be the goalscoring hero that we all want, but anyone with a good league record isn't going to come to us as A) we can't afford them and B) bigger/better clubs than us will be ahead in the queue. I think Waddock has brought Bignall in to help Beavon. He's looking much more like a regular goalscorer this season but still has to do too much work on his own. He needs someone to bully defenders and create more space for him. If he does that, then Bignall will be a good signing.
He's got pace like Pittman. The only difference being that Bignall has slightly more strength where as Pittman can score. He looked promising yes, as soon as he came on, he got the ball and ran down the left wing pushing past the defender other than that nothing springs to mind. I don't want you to think I'm slating him as he only trained with the team for something like 3 hours, so he can only improve but his record isn't anything to get excited about; so lets hope he does his talking on the pitch.
