Quick question folks. I am visiting my parents in the UK next week and would normally go to the local Ladbrokes to place my festival bets. Now it seems they have shut down so my dad is looking at opening an online account so we can have a bet. Is this still as easy as it used to be (ie register, upload some funds and off you go) or has it become more complex with affordability checks etc?

Any advice on which bookmaker to use? Bet365 always used to be the best but I would welcome any comments (normal bookmakers only - no exchanges). I’ll check out the special offers on Oddschecker too <ok>

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

If you've no loyalty to any particular bookies then look for the one with the best new customer offer. Personally I prefer bet 365 but if was opening a new account for Cheltenham then I'd be looking at the best offers available

You will probably need to send them ID, normally done via a photo upload.

If he hasn't got bookmakers accounts, I would suggest you open multiple and take advantage of the joining offers, and then just close them down or suspend them for 11 months after the week.

On another note, if he doesn't have a B365 account, can he give me his details?! <laugh>

    Thanks guys <ok>

I like the idea of opening multiple accounts to mop up the offers. Payout of these offers is usually linked to turnover isn’t it?

I would wait until Monday to do anything though, you might get some even better sign up offers for Cheltenham. #gambleresponsibly

FWIW, Denise Coates of B365 does stand up and pay her taxes in the UK (last time I looked she was the biggest individual taxpayer in the country) and I know at first hand that her charitable foundation does some admirable work. You might not put a high value on that (and B365 are very quick to restrict stakes if you show any signs of knowing what you're doing - hence the Bet£3.65 joke), but I'd say it was worth something. There's probably not much danger of Oddy generating a red shrewdie-flag, anyway.

I did get Ladbrokes to open their safe 2 years running - including the 10 minute wait for the time-delay lock and some dodgy looks from dodgy punters <laugh>

I agree. But losses empty the wallet very quickly too) I switched to slot machines from betting, then to poker and eventually got to the point where I set up a gambling app myself using in play sportsbook solution. It's a great and ready-made platform for any kind of gambling. There are even ready-made separate packages for all areas of gambling. So if you feel it's time to make some big money, I recommend you start with your own app.

    Cheers Swanny

I was planning to take my twins with me - booked the flights and everything (only €110 for the 2 of them with Ryanair) but then my son noticed at the weekend that his passport expired last April. Minimum 4 days to get a new one so they can't fly. Bummer.
