In the main fans were pretty good but there was always a core of fans who despised him from just about day 1. I heard it around me in the ground every match. It came down to pure jealousy. It got progressively worse and gathered momentum as we lost form. He had a bad dip in form and struggled to recapture his best after injury, but because of the scenario this was unacceptable to some fans. I don't mind saying, I thought many of ours fans were moronic in their behaviour towards him. Its like we didn't want to accept the real reasons behind our demise and it was easier to blame the guy who was being paid ridiculous amounts of money.

I will always remember the sight of Owen on the bench the last game of the season at Villa when we got relegated.

We conceded the Duff og and the cameras cut to the bench - fair play everyone looked gutted, Shearer looked like he had seen a ghost - Owen.....yawning and looking the other way!! DISGRACE!!

FS put £24million into Owen's stud farm no-one else. My thoughts are he was lucky to get such a lucrative offer from an average side. No top 4 club looked at him, but when he was fit he did pop them in. He's very happy at ManU because he has no need now to earn big bucks ( as we gave it to him) and he's playing a bit part in a top club. Other than that how unlucky were we when he got injured for England ?

 

I love how pathetic our fans are over him. Before his serious injuries he was brilliant, his injuries then meant he had to adapt a different style of play, no one ever seems to moan at 'King' Kev for playing him in a deeper role off Viduka and Martins. We were **** and player who's only strength is finishing isn't going to go well for us.

 

To anyone defending him, read ANY piece of post Owen journalism from the NE and you'll he is a ****.

They all said he was an arrogant arsehole who didn't give anyone the time of day 'cause he thought it was beyond him. He is genuinely a shoddy human being. I can't stand him!

 

Did you not think that journalists from the NE might actually be quite biased against him like the majority of our fans? So you believe everything a journalist writes...

 

The original article said he was a twat because he wouldn't swap his shirt...........imagine the Aldershot guys playing in the match of their careers. It's a one off and Owen should have been flattered and not arrogant as to refuse the guy. Common decency really.

Aye but the reality is he probably just wanted to put it on ebay to get a pretty penny. As I say I don't think players should feel any obligation to swap shirts. If you want to fine, if you don't then thats fine too. The article is just looking for an excuse to continue the Owen hate theme. Shearer refused to swap shirts on many occasions. Famously Stevenage when they'd roughed us up verbally before the game and on the pitch. He was a bit miffed with the whole giant killing and point blank refused the 4 or 5 that surrounded him! I saw him refuse other times aswell. But that's ok because he's Shearer....................

 

Jesus I often agree with you but I'm not sure I'd be posting some jilted journalist's petty little dig as evidence of him being someone to dislike. I dislike our local and national press immensely because they are **** at their job and do nothing but gossip. After 10 years of having your words twisted or things just made up you tend to just stop giving the interviews I'd imagine. I certainly would, easiest way. Shearer would only give interviews to select journalists for this very reason.

As for the press stuff - He's never been particularly friendly with the media. He's a quiet sort of guy and just wants to go about his life.

 

Fair enough, I guess we all form our own opinions from whatever info we're given. You may see as a jilted journalist's petty little dig, I personally see it as further evidence of the mans twatish behaviour. Until someone shows me evidence to prove otherwise I will continue to vehemently despise the little prick!
