Proper clash of the top flat sires tomorrow with Frankel taking on Sea The Stars and Authorized.... in a bumper at Catterick....
At half past 12 (or thereabouts) - Jacket Potato with a layer of extra mature cheddar cheese topped with baked beans. Now onto the old gee-gees and I feel contractually obliged to say a few more words about the form of 'Hendo' Henderson after another loser yesterday (albeit this one went against the recent trend and ran with credit to finish runner-up). He now hasn't had a winner for 17 days (and that is guaranteed to increase to 18 as the old boy has no runners today) and during that time is 0/22. Perhaps the most worrying thing is just how far a lot of these horses are getting beat or are being pulled up when miles behind. Looking a losing run is obviously only one win away from being ended but if the forum's favourite trainer continues this sequence, much longer, then you do have to wonder about the well being of the yard ahead of Cheltenham. Also, what do we think, is there the real possibility of both Connie Hill and Jonbon drifting, potentially big time, ahead of the Supreme???
Proper breeding in that race. Spin The Wheel a half-brother to Indefatigable and Carole's Pass closely related to Mad Max. Really intriguing contest.
A couple of slices of ciabatta - one with brie, t'other with a lovely bit of Italian salami. 9/10 for simplicity and taste. Regarding Henderson's form - surely it is the old "lesser lights" of Seven Barrows who are running at the moment, with all the big ammo being saved for the spring festivals. I would imagine we'll see the old boy in the winners enclosure next week - perhaps even after the first race when Jonbon obliges?
In a recent interview he spent longer talking about Jonbon and Connie Hill as novice chasers for next season rather than what they were going to do this term which was slightly bizarre. Really, really, really am undecided about the Supreme. Do hope he wins the race but with which animal I am by no means certain. Plus, am more and more thinking the fly in the old ointment could be Kilcruit. Still maintain that at last years DRF he put up the best bumper performance that I have ever seen. And if WP, I say WP, Mullins has got him back in that sort of form he would be a match for anyone in my opinion. Yep, it is the lesser lights but don't forget that means they are running in lesser races. Everything comparative and all that. However, maybe, he'll silence my doubts my winning the Imperial Cup at the weekend!
I rate Mighty Potter a big danger to all. I said after the Royal Bond he was the one to take out of the race and he was good at Christmas.
Won’t he need connections of Langer Dan to either scrub him from Saturday’s renewal or transfer him to 7 Barrows beforehand? Skeltons surely eyeing up another tilt at the ol Brucey Bonus with this one coming close last year but thwarted by a Mullins hotpot. Bit early for lunch but wfh means no cafeteria options available. Probably a cheese and sauce sarnie (HP - nothing else comes close) and a packet of Walkers crisps.
16:00 Catterick - Lalochezia (Shirocco gelding can follow-up after good win LTO 34-days ago at Kelso. Alain Cawley on board for Justin Landy yard. 11/2 generally-available best price at time of writing) plus: Reverse Forecast: Lalochezia/Flexi Furlough (A couple of pieces of toast with sliced mature Gouda and a few fried bacon bits with a touch of Tabasco, plus of course, a 'Spezial'! Also 'simple fare' but darn good!)
I gave up the chance for a free lunch at Fontwell. Whilst I’m sure it’s palatable it can’t be worth the fuel costs.
Cheese and beans not your thing Swanny? Love a cheese and beans combo personally. I note you’ve gone for one at Catterick. I’m on the other one in your forecast so have written it off with the form you’re in.
These two look to me as though they have the best chances, but horseracing is full of unwanted surprises! (Actually, I don't mind baked beans at all, but not in the above-mentioned combination! Should have explained things a bit better. Anyway, our lunches were good for all of us!)
