Agreed. Stick loads of lemonade in it and it reflects the strength of the teams that are fielded in it. Forte being a good example.
Has Forte been sold yet or his contract cancelled? A couple of fans have moaned about him on the internet, and that means that justice must be served. Floggings too good for the likes of him. How dare he not be utterly wonderful in a game after not being involved in the first team for months on end. And what about the manager who selected him? Clearly a complete nut case. We should listen more to knee jerk moaners on internet forums, they are without question, kings amongst men.
I've for saying for a while now that they should either scrap the league cup, or combine it with the JPT (ie a proper Football League Cup, that doesn't include Premiership teams but does actually include the whole of the Football League). With the exception of those four of five sides in the middle of the Premiership, who have no realistic chance of qualifying for Europe but who should also be safe from relegation, the league cup is pointless for everyone in the top two divisions - and it's even more pointless for the sides in the next two divisions, as they've got the JPT to put ahead of it.
I have thought for many years that both English & Scottish League cups should be made into a British Cup. Won't happen as the Football League don't want to lose their european place, but would spark interest both sides of the border. Would be regional for the first few rounds and then from the Last 16 onwards, make it English (and the taffs) against Scottish. One season the final is at Wembley, the next at Hampden.
FFS if we'd won last night, we'd be talking about Arsenal or Newcastle next at St Mary's and another trip to Wembley. The Carling Cup serves a purpose. Nigel used it well this season and we had a nice little run; shame it ended, but hey, it did. Blue line Draw Move on
Not going to slag Forte off but i am a little puzzled as to why he was handed a 3 year contract. As for the lad himself,he played a very important role in our promotion from league 1,will never forget the mk dons brace.
Will love him forever for the MK Dons game. Nigel brought him in so must have rated him, but has rarely used him. Says to me that he quickly realised that he wasn't going to cut it. Bit harsh to go overboard though because playing him alone up front was basically unfair..not his kind of game.
Forte was bought as a aquad player in L1. he did a job for us then, and will again this season. He didn't play well as a lone striker in a team including a couple of youngsters, and some of the fringe squad players - SO WHAT. quite a few players were below par, and things would have been different if we had taken our chances in the first half. Sir Nigel knows him and knows what he can do - thats good enough for me. he's not Pulis for heavens sake - lets not get on his back.
Maybe I was a bit harsh yesterday - thats what a bad mood does! Not used to Saints losing so more likely to get angry when we do lose, even if its a Carling Cup match.
Will also like Forte purely for the classic NA comment about him - "When I talk about quick players I always say, 'Is he Jonno quick?'"
Not sure why anyone is surprised by this performance -he has always looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights even in L1 From his first game I think it was obvious he would never make the grade Needs to be moved on in January
Id laugh if he came on the next game and won the game for us. Iv'e slagged of players before but just for one match, the next match is a clean slate. I would never say that's kick out a guy after one match and the fact he was playing up front alone.
Take away the goals against MK Dons and he's in the Pulis/Forecast mould. I'd rather see people criticise Forte because he's been given a chance and has been bad. Pulis was never given a go.
