Attacking the worlds largest nuclear station seems a big idiotic does it not? I know the fire is under control but still. I am surprised we are still watching mind, as in NATO that is. He’s just slowly moving in when there wasn’t a room available.
I think that will ultimately be the final straw…that’s not just a threat (and a very real one) to Ukraine but to the rest of Europe and possibly even beyond. Can they not just do what they do on the telly and put a bounty on his head. Anyone who takes him out gets like £10m or summit…..that’ll flush the ****er out!
It does seem bizarre. To put everyone at risk is weird and far to risky and just shows how far he is willing to go. When someone like him isn’t scared to take risks it’s worrying.
Oligarch Yacht Bingo. Nicked of Twatter. Play along and knock one off for each yacht seized around the world
Why are Russian F1 drivers and Olympians banned but footballers are ok? I'm not asking whether it is right or wrong for them to be banned just why there is inconsistency.
None of them should be banned. Its just virtue signaling. Why don't we keep politics out of sport and leave the politicians to do their thing? Its just a media frenzy. To be honest its a bit sick all this. Its like a bunch of Nazi's painting symbols on doors to indicate Jews were there or a cross on a door to indicate someone had the plague. They've vilified an entire countries population overnight. Weirdest of all, the general population seems to think this is ok and part of some war effort Its one thing targeting oligarchs, but banning sports people and vilifying the general russian individuals due to nationality is wrong. We have this weird cult thing going on too where they are obliged to come out and speak against what's going on. It was like when McClean wouldn't wear a poppy and was vilified.
I don't have a problem with the idea of either sanctions or with isolating Russia on a cultural as well as economic level. It is far better than the usual response of escalating military conflict. I'm not naive enough to dispel the fact that the only reason we haven't got involved is due to Russia's nuclear capabilities, but that doesn't detract from it being the most effective course of action in the current situation. Putin and the oligarchs will ride out the sanctions far longer with public support than without it. I think the isolation could initially stiffen Russian resolve, but in the long term will weaken it. We can't change Russian foreign policy or the Russian leadership. The only people who can do that are the Russian populace. I believe it is important that ordinary Russians understand how much the rest of the world disapproves of their government's actions, because they sure as hell won't find out through Russian media. The elephant in the room about this policy though is why it hasn't been applied to countries in the past who deserved it just as much - many times the United States and ourselves. I don't see that as a reason not to do it now. Doing the correct thing has to start somewhere, and past mistakes don't negate the need to start. The real issue will come next time a western country (or ally) does something deserving of sanctions and isolation. You can justify being inconsistent with the past much easier than remaining inconsistent in the future.
We want to make sure the Russian people don't hate us all for imposing sanctions that hurt all of them, and not just their government.
