https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2022/03/02/statement-from-roman-abramovich Afraid not mate. He’s simply not living up to this evil image. Not only tried to negotiate peace, but also not gonna cripple Chelsea, and not asking for loans to be repaid. Furthermore setting up charitable foundation with all net proceeds going to it and distributed to the victims of the war.
Wait, let's get our priorities right here, in the grand scheme of all that's going on - does this mean we'll have to stop calling them Chelski?
I’m pissed up I. temple bar and pissed off still. Roman giving money to the Ukraine victims is either guilt money… or he genuinely gives a **** and thinks his old mate has a screw loose. someone pls make my mind up for me
Yeah, I stand corrected - how wonderfully magnanimous of him. Spent £140m. Then spent £1.5bn. The loans are now written off, he's such a lovable guy. But he wants £3bn? I'm no maths whizz, but I can kinda see why the rich just keep getting richer. He could discount it by 33% and still have made £400m.
The club is not worth £3B, he's asking that to offset his loans, as for his charitable foundation I note he doesn't say which countries victims it will help, I bet they'll all be Russian especially once he gets out of the UK.
He states that its for all victims of the war in Ukraine. He actually has deep links with the Ukraine (like most Russians) and has been actively trying to broker peace. I don't think any Russian (not even Putin) wants this war in Ukraine. Its more about the ongoing 'Cold' war with the US amongst many other things. However he doesn't have Putin's ear in quite the same way the West thinks. The Ukrainians have actually thanked him for his efforts. Roman has distanced himself from Putin as far as he is allowed to - but you are never truly out of his grasp when you've made the deals the oligarchs did. I don't think he will get his 3 billion, its only a starting point. You don't start low. Forbes valued the club at 2.4billion - they've since won the CL and World Club Cup. Liverpool is valued at about 2.9billion. Man U is at 4billion. He's in the right ball park according to the money men.
That's just silly mate. Why would he discount it? He's turned it into what it is. If its valued at somewhere between 2.4billion and 3billion, then that is what you will ask for. There isn't a man alive who would do differently. You're applying a different set of rules to him, he didn't create the capitalist system that allows this type of situation to develop. Putting aside any bad feeling towards him, in business terms he's just doing what is expected. The only difference is he is taking back only what he has spent. He doesn't need the money, the guy is worth about 11 billion but he's not a fool. If the proceeds go towards a worthy cause, then all good. Obviously if its somehow proven that he's had involvement in the war then its less good - but despite all the MP bluster they've yet to come up with anything. Or at least nothing they want revealed...
Not saying he should, just saying he could chop the price and it would have no impact. I don't believe he or any of the oligarchs want this war. Incredibly bad for business. He's selling because he has to. If the proceeds go to Ukraine, fair enough. I'm only interested in Chelsea being worse off, which they will be. The business side is of no consequence, really.
Sadly I think another rich billionaire will take it, simply because of location. That part of London is for the rich and famous isn't it. So great kudos on a club of that stature located where it is. Mind will every billionaire have the same love for it and be willing to spunk money on it like Roman has? That is a bit unknown. A club like that will never lose you money in the modern game though, the value of these types seems to just expand every year. I'm sure if the Saudis had been involved in buying that it would have sailed through a lot easier than ours did.
'Net' proceeds going to charity. So only if he makes a profit on the sale. His objective is clearly to cut his losses before he gets sanctioned - as evidenced by Chris Bryant's evidence in the HoC. Unlikely he's going to make a profit, nor does he want to, so saying the profits are going to Ukrainian war victims is the cheapest of cheap talk.
I think he acquired his assets which he sold back to his motherland through scumbag methods for sure. I'm sure he still has a watchful eye over him too. Being honest though I doubt there is a clean billionaire out there. Money corrupts people in the same way power does and the two go hand in hand. Hence there isn't a clean world leader or those pulling their strings. The common man is just a tool to them all.
I think he'll make a profit no problem personally. He bought it for 140m. He's spent 1.5 billion give or take. Its valued at 2.4 billion plus by Forbes prior to the CL and World Club Cup win. Its in the most exclusive part of London. PL league clubs, especially ones of this stature are like rocking horse ****. I'm sure there is some ambiguity in his statement like there would be any commercial business. Should be a sizeable profit though. I don't know what he means by the not wanting his loans repaid. I can't imagine he is writing off the 1.5 billion? That would be akin to madness.
He didn't steal his money. He was one of those who took advantage of the breakdown in his motherlands troubles and allegedly stole his country's assets. Through what methods is difficult to ascertain but I'd imagine he'll have blood on his hands for sure. He then was forced to sell those assets back. He was just smart enough to go along with that, otherwise he'd be dead. He's then used that money to become very very rich. He's a smart cookie is Roman. The country has economically speaking been put into a far better state since he sold those assets. Putin has done an excellent job in this regard - well up until he annexed Crimea and stepped up his Cold War with America. He's definitely one of the many ****ish elite.
Well his money came to him through a legitimate sale mate. It was the assets that they potentially stole. I would imagine they did through violence most likely. Never been proven of course, but they all came to be that rich rapidly somehow. Putin alluded to it in the Stone interviews, admitting to widespread corruption and the oligarchs being in control rather than the president. I think there is a classic story where one upset him by walking in and saying "right how are WE going to run this country". I think he may be dead...
