We're at a very dangerous point right now. I just don't see what Putin's exit strategy could be, without him looking weak (the thing he fears above all else). But the fact we're at this dangerous point is BECAUSE OF HIS ACTIONS. Blaming NATO or the EU or the West, whatever, is utterly wrong, and frankly very cowardly.
https://www.politico.eu/article/the-end-of-europes-putin-illusion/ I find it intriguing that Trump spent years howling about how Germany didn’t fulfil it’s spending obligations and it is only now that they are doing it - when he is out of office and his hero as gone too far Trump supporters (and even some non trump supporters) like to claim this invasion wouldn’t have happened under his watch (it didn’t need to but never mind). So by the thought process neither would the Germans stepping up their contributions
I mean - if he wants to include Ukraine in part of his greater Russian empire I would assume he wouldn’t want a nuclear fallout zone included
Apparently Russia are blaming Liz Truss for their nuclear alerts yesterday I know she is a fool but I don’t recall her saying anything that could provoke that Unless they have deliberately misinterpreted her comment about U.K. nationals who want to fight there as the U.K. actually sending troops. Which I expect is their excuse
They have. I mean never mind that countries like Denmark are actively encouraging nationals to join up. It's just diversion tactics, as per. The Russians see the UK as the potential weak link after Brexit, so it's an easy blame. I mean, not like we should be actually blaming the loonies threatening to use the weapons!? I have no time at all for Truss, but the Russian line there is bollocks.
In this case it is most likely that Truss is the easy target as she is a liability and proven herself to be out of her depth in this scenario
There would be a good chance of windblown radiation clouds affecting Russia that really would be pissing in the wind.
A nation literally in a life or death struggle for its own national sovereignty has applied to join the EU. Just let that sink in, Brexiters.
"ALLY MCCOIST has fumed at FIFA's reaction to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. FIFA had faced calls to ban Russia from the competition altogether but, while it has stopped short of that on this occasion, it said in a statement “potential exclusion” remained an option. Instead the football governing body said Russia must play international matches in neutral countries without supporters. They will also have to play under the name ‘Football Union of Russia’ and not as ‘Russia’ under new measures issued in response to the Ukraine crisis. FIFA also ruled that no Russian flag or national anthem can be used at matches. Reacting to he FIFA statement, McCoist said "This angers me. It really, really angers me. "Football Union of Russia? That's the only bit they've got right. It's F U Russia, and that's what it should be. "It's absolutely embarrassing. (Gianni) Infantino should hang his head in shame.""
Open door to refugees from Ukraine instead of weasel words and obfuscation, massive military aid, what more do you want?
Maybe it would be rather nice if folk stop sniping and making ridiculous statements concerning things they know absolutely nothing about, and remember that this is a humanitarian crisis of massive proportions. People are dying in many parts of Ukraine, and the sheer terror and stress these poor people are living under is dreadful so whatever anyone on here thinks, no one really knows what is happening. I know how much people love to speculate about football matters by the number of idiot tweets that are posted on here but for goodness sake, this disaster is worth more delicacy and consideration than arguing over who said what and whether we disagree with something someone said. In the midst of all this death and destruction there are stories of things that are happening, such as the way people in Poland and the other countries bordering Ukraine are dropping everything, rushing to the border with food, blankets, hot drinks and using their own transport to get the people pouring out of Ukraine to somewhere warm and secure. It's an astonishing example of how the human spirit can bring about something quite amazing and deeply touching in the middle of chaos. In some ways it doesn't matter who is right and who is wrong in situations like this. What really does matter is how people react to it and how good people willingly come together to counter the viciousness and tragedy of war. Those are the things worth talking about and giving time to.
There's a suggestion that part of the reason Russian logistics have been so messed up, is that they were (amazingly) using Google Maps to navigate convoys through Ukraine. Google switched it off, so they ended up largely getting lost. Hilarious if true.
