Let's face it he made those average championship players into title winners, without him a lot would still be languishing there in mid table going nowhere. They enjoyed a fantastic first season back with great flowing football but from the off this year they seemed to be lacking the same drive and intensity for whatever reason, the small squad was his choice and he didn't want to alter his philosophy and with results going south and little sign of any improvement he has paid the price. he is a genuine humble man who will I'm sure think long and hard about why it ended this way but he will be forever remembered in the city and beyond for the football people enjoyed not just by Leeds fans....he has mural's around the city how many managers get that kind of adoration in such short a time, he knows that he will be remembered for what he did I'm sure...wonder if he takes the bucket with him
And that will form part of the Breakfast Debate tomorrow. Did the players let Bielsa down in the end. The official ratings from the BBC
Under Marcelo Bielsa Leeds United became a football club above the dross that inhabits the Premier League Now we are about to join them proves the point it’s all about money money money, the football doesn’t matter Yours sincerely Pissed off and will remain so This maybe sacrilege but I would have preferred us to be relegated and Marcelo be given the chance to get us back up rather than what has happened Radz out It maybe the wine talking but I am seriously pissed off
“Bielsa was a bit too stubborn for his own good – I was told a group of players approached him about adapting the style of play but he wouldn’t listen to them. Moments like that go against you if results are bad.”
Bielsa brought a number of players into his thinking I am told- they asked him to stick to his principles and carryon with the system they knew and loved the only decenting voices were the new additions to the club see even I can stir the pot all on my own
You only need to look at who hasn't said a word about his departure via their social media platforms like Instagram and you can work out who they were. I've little doubt he'd lost a few players in that dressing room
We dint know right now what will happen, we dint know if Bielsa would have turned it around, we dont know if Jesse M will stop the rot and keep us up but ultimatley its a massive gamble for the board because if we go down they get pelters and will be begging Bielsa to come back again. We go down the 49ers will have to take over and start to build again without Radz and Kinnear and Orta will take a job in Spain because they will be railroaded outof Leeds
Yes and i can believe it's true. Players like kalvin have done well under bielsa. Others though have gone backward like rodrigo and Llorente. Defenders getting battered every game start to question why. Players on the bench looking at a winger at striker know it's not working. The Leeds trio of Ayling cooper and Philips might have been the ones who approached Bielsa. There was no lack of effort against spurs we missed some sitters. We simply were not fast or athletic enough to stop them. So yes we needed to adapt to what we had and grind some games out. You can be the nicest man on the planet but if you mess up at work it's the push.
Railroad I like the sound of that Wonder if that’s why he was interested in buying other clubs- planning ahead C?nt
So guilty by saying nothing but post something and be completely innocent. No crime has been commited as far as i can see.
Lets Just put this into perspective. He took a group of players that did this And within a short period of time got those same players to do this He is a great coach and I would have preferred him at the helm for the remainder of the season, at least. We recently lost to three of the top 6 teams, who expected to beat them? The goal margin was embarrassing, but was it ultimately going to cause us any more of a problem with goal difference? Lets hope for a new coach bounce but tell me how a new coach is going to get these same players who have conceded so many goals without reply to suddenly become better, or have they been hiding their light under a bush? Maybe different tactics will work, maybe they will confuse the players or be impossible for them to execute. I hope for the sake of the club we have done the right thing. I'm also really aggrieved at the "can't coach but can be commentators" ex footballers who spout such rubbish on a regular basis but are listened to. Marcelo Bielsa was one of the best Coaches/ Managers we have had. I will miss the way he wanted the game to be played, his honesty and integrity but I hope the club doesn't miss him.
You could be right but it does seem strange that virtually everyone who was promoted with him is offering very kind words and the "newer" signings have said not much at all
Could be personal perspective, those he got promoted have had their lives changed significantly for the better, those that have been recruited maybe not so much.
Well i agree with those that wanted a change in tactics. He got the sack because of his failings and limitations. He won many fans for his style of play and the leeds fans loved it. But in the end he was a one trick pony at coaching. A total refusal to change anything and that is why he hss never won anything at a top level. Klopp and pep have but they can adapt.
I was looking for a way to say the same. Plus they were with him from the beginning. Give it a week or so and they will start to adapt. These guys have been playing since they were kids.
The newer signings were internationals who possibly thought they didn't have much to learn. Bielsa would probably have done better with lower-level players he knew or thought he could improve. Unfortunately, and seemingly at the behest of Bielsa, we spent a fortune on the internationals. We'll never know the full story. Still very sad to lose MB though.
