He's been given a longer run of games in the side (4 or 5?) than Eaves has had in 2 years. He hasn't done the basics of winning a ball knocked in his direction and bringing others into play. He didn't even jump for the ball when it was played up to him in the air at Sheffield United and QPR and rarely looked like getting to it in front of the defender. Tyler Smith doesn't look a very composed finisher but his pace and movement has at least taken him beyond the defence in both the last 2 games when he's come on. If the excuse is that Forss needs to play alongside another forward, who'll win the ball for him I'm really not convinced.
exactly, if we played 3-5-2 we could pair Forss up with another striker. Sticking him up top on his own chasing shadows all night is pointless & as an ex striker himself Shota should know this
I think very few had genuine play-off hopes and know it was always about staying up this season and trying to push on next season…it was the manner of tonight’s performance which has got to everyone. It really was that bad. We could have played until midnight and not scored. You just knew it was never going to get much better.
I'd sooner give young Hinds another chance up front then continue playing Forss. I haven't seen him win a header yet in any game, he just looks like someone who's won a raffle to play for his favourite team.
I listened to the whole commentary and thought it was fair. He did mention early on the typical city thing, as it is undeniably a real thing, but also said that we have enough quality and based on two good away draws could do barnsley 2 3 or 4 to nil.
I think Acun made a big mistake by not promoting Andy Dawson to be Shota's assistant. He's already at the club, the players know him & he has vast experience of playing in the Championship. As it stands we have a manger & assistant who have never managed in England & have no experience of how to set up a team for the Championship.
I wouldn't disagree with Hinds being given another chance but surely as part of a front two? A couple of games playing the lone striker relying on scraps would see him disillusioned and his head being called for.
I meant that Rick. I know we have injuries etc but we cannot carry on having no threat at all up front and sorry but Forss is not the answer for us. We have a bit of talent in the Under 23's so lets see what they have to offer ?
Seems to me that the team is asked to play a passing game but don't have the confidence and trust in each other to carry it out very well, I guess partly due to a number of players not showing for it when needed. Barnsley where brave in how they set up at the beginning of the match and they pinned us back (any team who has watched us recently will know this is an effective way to play against us). they pressed high and we booted it up the park aimlessly as we have done often recently. The approach to this game felt tactically naive.
I'm not sure why Hinds hasn't been given his chance due to our current striker situation.? Arveladze needs to do something, and soon, because it's not happening.I'd try the lad up front with Forss because that's about our only option at the moment,if Eaves became available then that's obviously a better one because he would protect the lad better. If truth be told...We don't have a real threat up front at all and taking this Club forward will cost a lot more money than some would believe.A 20 goal a season striker, even at this level, costs big bucks. Hopefully the Turk is true to his word and is prepared to spend them...
Good post!! We can be nullified by the dross of the League by simply pressing us and allowing us no time on the ball...That's a huge cause for concern!!
best out there last night, that said I would have only given him a 5 out of 10! All round shocking performance and result.
Just been talking to some lads at work who went and after a nights sleep I'm seeing the comedy value in it now. Just remembered Cartwright (who I'm not in anyway meaning to single out) winning the ball from their corner and booting it out for a throw in near their corner flag with every City player still in our half. It was really was just one of those nights.
