Maybe Acun should do the honourable thing and say that everyone that went tonight gets a freebie for a given match soon. sod the EFL rules....
and resort to what CTF.... what they do anyway... hoofing up the pitch, or pass to a midfield who pass it back to them, to be put under more pressure, which results in them hoofing it up the pitch....?....
Very few balls into the channels for KLP and Longman to turn and run onto. Almost every ball to feet with their marker tight up against them. Vast majority of time they had little option but to pass back, and it didn't change during the whole match.
And you're basing your 'impression' on what? He got rid of McCann, who meant nothing to him, and gave his mate a job. He'll find it slightly more difficult and uncomfortable to sit Shota Arveladze down and tell him to return from whence he came... Just for clarification,I'm not bleating for that to happen, but Arveladze needs to be a bit cuter(starting Saturday) if he wants to remain in his job. He's had a few knocks and niggles to contend with during his short reign but his decision making especially during a game, when things aren't going too well, has looked distinctly amateurish so far.
Agreed Ric - it's almost like plucking a relatively unknown manager from Eastern Europe and throwing them into a Championship relegation battle was a bit optimistic!
Saturday.... get some legs up front with Forss out.... Ive not seen him play but Josh Hinds was thought good enough in front of Smith by previous management.
I'm not sure why some people have gone into full melt down mode. We've been in a relegation dog fight all season. For every amazing win we've picked up we've lost two. The transfer window was somewhat underwhelming in the end and one of those signed has been injured and hasn't even been in contention. All the talk of play off miracles was just pie in the sky wishful thinking. I think (hope) we'll nick enough points to stay up, then next season we'll be in a position to rebuild.
It was (and is)a huge gamble but we have to trust the new owner to make these decisions(if truth be told,we don't have a say in any of this)? He's bought the Club from owners who were intensely disliked by most,he's promised huge changes at the Club,we gave him our blessing...Averladze needs to get these lads fighting and scrapping for every ball and calming the **** down when they're actually on the ball...Where's the confidence and swagger gone??
Championship performances under McCann improved once he finally abandoned 4-3-3 & went 3-5-2. If Shota was watching all our games then surely he knows this ??. Play 3 holding midfielders & 2 x wingers. Stops us being over run in the centre of the pitch & gives service to the 2 strikers . It's not rocket science so why does Shota go 4-2-3-1 last night at home to the team bottom of the league ? Playing Forss up top on his own will never work, as a striker himself Shota must see this ?
Wish I was as optimistic as yourself. On a rebuild it will be quicker to predict who stays. Without major surgery another relegation battle will be a foregone conclusion. I'd suspect the first to depart might be the bloke picking the side.
Whilst acknowledging that we barely played to his strengths, Forss was abject last night. Offered absolutely nothing for an hour then comes off clutching his thigh. Last we've seen of him for a while, I think. That said the service he got was shocking. Either in play or on dead balls no one seemed to be able to cross beyond the first man or, contrariwise, passes where laughably overhit. Lewis-Potter's miss in the third minute set the standard to be honest. He should score. He should have hit the target. He should have forced the keeper to make a save. None of those - just a woeful miskick when unmarked 10 yards out. Conceding from our own corner during one minute of injury time is unforgivable. First game I've seen live under the new regime and for me the biggest worry was seeing nothing happening from the bench. Very few messages being passed to the players. No attempt to rectify what was obviously going wrong. No anger. No passion. Nothing. I thought Smallwood tried to hand the armband to Bernard - who wasn't looking - so he dropped it and continued jogging off. It didn't particularly look a petulant act to me. But I may be wrong.
Forss hasn't been given a chance at this Club. What do you really expect of him ploughing a lone furrow himself up front? We seem to have went from having options up front to having a physio's bench full of walking wounded... This whole situation requires close scrutiny as to why we're firing blanks, the answer to me is playing someone alongside Forss, not binning him!
That’s definitely what it looked like on the TV. Was amazed to see all the shoutiness about it when I came on here after the game.
The midfield looked wrong to me. Smallwood was advancing further up than slater and honeyman. He was trying to poke the ball away from their players and they just passed around him. Honeyman is at his best as an advanced midfielder who comes back and attacks the ball. If he has a bad game so do city.
