So testing, as we all know Barcelona is first testing, starts tomorrow!!!! Can't wait.

Not sure if we are going to use the team threads for testing chat or have a new one.
Mods feel free to delete this if we are using team threads.

OK so testing isn't usually very useful in helping determine who has a quick car and who doesn't but hopefully we will see the cars in more details?

No harm in a testing to thread Ched, especially when it comes to collating lap times and trying to make any sense of it.

If there are some cracking pictures they can be posted both here and in the team threads, especially as we expect quite significant development steps early on this year.

Just a shame we don’t get full coverage but apparantly Sky and Ted Kravitz will be doing a highlights and day summary each evening.

Be good to finally have a look at the Red Bull- very secretive so far!

Looks like 8pm (UK time) Sky F1 testing review then 8:30pm Teds notebook. So 1hr should give us some images and a little info. The programs are on Wed, Thurs, and Friday and repeated at 10pm.

Totally think a testing thread works for the entire event. We can still use the team threads if we want to discuss something specific to a car/driver, but this better for general testing discussion.

I have high hopes for the Scuderia! :)

Is it wrong of me to hope every other team nailed it, and RBR built an absolute bucket?

Nothing against Max at all...But boy I want to see the smile wiped off Horner's mush. :p

Yeah it's an event like a race. So should be it's own thread.

Are any media outlets covering it or is it all behind closed doors?

Looks like media are allowed in, but no “live” tv coverage, which is what Bahrain have paid for it seems.

side pod inlet changed. under part is effectively directing air around car and is extended out.

under than and the next zone are bolt on change parts.

the floor has a long ripple, the merc has far more in there.

underwing mirror has already sprouted the deflectors that were first seen on merc.

The side pod undercut looks to be partly mesh to allow air through to the right of the T3 Tezos logo before the grey bit? I wonder why the grey bit as rest of the car is painted?
Looks like they have taped a gopro looking at the front wing!
After seeing the Merc flexi front wing on the 100km filming runs I think FIA will be busy.

Alpine out and about. What a shame about that pink.

Hope they’re really gonna put this new engine through its paces

I realise that we can't see the underside till someone gets crained off the track but has anyone seen any sort of diagrams or explanation of how the underfloors might work? We were told that a large proportion of the downforce comes from the under floor but not how it's done. Any ideas?

    on the first shot.

the front win has loads of vertical white marks.

the wing mirrors are inside a pod like the merc. it seems to extend further forward of the mirror than the mercs.

the floor as it dives down is showing what could be slots to get more air into that tunnel. they look like cut outs? its not reall on the second shot so obviously.

there are some bumps and humps on the floor just in front or at the rear typre so those are not really too clear but it is not at all like the emr in that rising up floor effect.

the rear wing seems to me to be straight at the back upright and curved at the front to throw air outwards and the middle of the wear wing dives down. the outwash is on the merc but that dive down is not on other cars.

    on second shot:

The carbon fiber weave is very obvious.

the radiator duct for want of a better term is radially different when i can zoom in.

there is a bottom foil much further out and this has a large radius and swoops up to the wing mirror vertical and continues on in a air deflector that is same as merc. This is all painted and "looks" like it was always intended.

Under then however looks as i zoom in to be either deliberately covered in some aero dusting or whatever to show air flow to team or is a change part.

Right down from the O of Oracle there is a hump and if you follow its direction there is some small triangle thing under the floor suggesting some form of air flow out that way.

then there the heavy white colours zone which could be anything, i have no clue anyway. again could be to see where air is moving.

Under the A then there is another change part that looks bolters on for now and there's a hump on that that could be any sort of probe or whatever. under this bolt on is a vertical set of lines i cant make out what the panel is. is this the "venting/mesh"?

The floor under the C of oracle has what i could only call a cut where the ripple starts and this might not be exactly legal.the edge looks sharp

At the front zone there is also white stuff. the two camera pods ar covered and thr side of nose behind it ha a build up.

I'd love to hear what's going on with all of this as the picture of "real" and "hidden" details seems to be becoming more clear by the day.

its done by suction, there's clean air form the front and some cars are trying to add to the suction effect in different ways and the big old diffuser at the bakc pulls air through so there's a pressure differential top and bottom of the car.

    thats all i know <laugh>

faster and cleaner air = more speed and more suction down. this is why the outside floor is of interesting in how the teams are creating more vortices or more suction or more airflow joining up with the air at the back.

I'd love a video explaining this if anyone has seen one?
