It's a shame Hull didn't get the many, many millions in central Government funding and other support that Leeds got, despite having more need of funding to rebuild the City after the war, and not getting the same level of support when external factors decimated key local industries.

Despite that, I'd much sooner live in Hull than Leeds, especially the outer parts of Leeds that have gone even further down hill having been neglected in favour of the centre.

Fur coat no knickers springs to mind.

I don't understand the stewarding at the MKM.We need stewards,of course we do,but the amount at the MKM is mind-boggling.

Costs could and should be trimmed in that particular department!!

Another reason not to like Leeds , went to a hospital there to survey for a system installation and needed researcher guide to the lab . Lady got in the lift and asked where I was from , I said Hull and with an edge ‘ your not from Yorkshire , are you’ it wasn’t geographical ignorance she just didn’t class us as Yorkshire folk. Unfortunately I had to be polite . We didn’t get the sale either they bought from a German company !

Most of Leeds funding started when Leeds had an MP who was Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. End of the 1960s the centre was in a bad way, especially behind the station.Did our Deputy Leader MP get any funding thrown in?
I wouldn't mind living in some outer areas of Leeds. Alwoodley for example...<laugh>

Yet we have people who insist Middlesbrough is not in Yorkshire.

You're confirming Leeds got far more funding and support than Hull, which is precisely what I said. That being the case, it's ridiculous to try to claim one is superior.

Given the difference in funding, Leeds should be far better than it is. It has grossly underachieved, and Hull has made far better use of the meager resources. A big part of that is the stoic attitude of Hull residents, who tend to deal with situations head on, and work out how to make best, whereas you wessies tend to whine and look for hand outs.

Compare and contrast the demise of the mining industries with those of fishing.

I think a big part of the issue relates to the attitudes of the people, and how they define what is good and bad about a place. People raised in Hull tend to have a far more pragmatic view of life, and relate to people. Wessies (including those raised there) tend to be far more superficial and pretentious.

You have to live here, and by that I mean the City itself, to get the full experience.

Maybe your company's tender for the job was O.T.T? but it doesn't excuse a British Hospital giving work to a German Company...It just about sums up everything that's wrong with our Country!!

From what is going on currently, Leeds continues to get huge funding.

You Wessies? I am from the East Riding and raised here..I actually moved to Hull and lived there, the opposite of so many who go on about what a great place Hull is but get out at the first opportunity and never come back. Leeds got more support than Hull due to its Deputy Leader MP doing his job for his city. Unlike Prescott who did sod all for the trawlermen whilst steelworkers and miners were well compensated. Of course Leeds is far bigger than Hull, same size as Amsterdam, though not as good a place to visit, and not stuck out on a limb so will always attract more businesses and investment.. It is Sheffield which should be miffed at Leeds getting such a big proportion of investment in Yorkshire.
After 80 years it is time to stop blaming the war for Hull's ills. Far more badly destroyed cities all over Europe had repaired their war damage by the 1960s or knocked it down and rebuilt modern centres.
Stoical? Never listened to the whinge fest that is the phone in on Burnsy? Or read the comments on HDM?

And will continue to do so given its size. Labour councils have failed Hull but done well for Leeds as they have people who understand business unlike Geraghty, Brady et al...

Nah, your wessie life has clearly tainted you. You seem to have similar priorities to them, and try to belittle the good folk of this City at every opportunity.

When worked in Leeds the only priorities the lads I knew had were their football team winning, having a good night out with plenty of beer and getting their leg over. Different ones in Hull?

Indeed. The south and east of Leeds are utterly utterly dire

Different to the ones you keep on using as your criteria certainly. If nothing else, it's tedious.

Which criteria do you have for Hull to be a more successful, attractive place?

They focus on the centre, and then try to land grab the outer villages into the boundary, so the inner city areas are absolute **** holes. Far worse than anything we've got here. Hull could be 'improved' at the stroke of a pen, by simply moving the boundary.

The ones I mentioned above. You don't like the place, that's crystal clear, but you seem to base that on things I don't give a **** about. Each to their own I suppose, but it gets extremely boring reading it in so many posts.
