Don't disagree that the squad could have a better balance but we don't know how much finances played in having to move players out. If I recall correctly we were said to be very close to our limit on players wages. Anyway all academic now we just have to get on with it
O'Nien was struggling with injury through october and out by end of October. Don't think it's a huge coincidence
Very nice of them to say, but unfortunately I'm in the "aye whatever, mate" club these days.... so aye... whatever.
Aye I noticed he said that like. Funny, the only time I've met speakman was at a RAWA meeting where I was quite impressed because he was unequivocal that the long term plan couldn't be at the expense of short term goals, and was pretty clear that the short term goal was promotion. I was glad that they seemed to be following that when they sacked Johnson, it showed that promotion was indeed all they'd accept. So to now be talking of a 4 window plan suggests to me that he knows his human shield (Johnson) has gone and people might actually be looking at him. He's left us short in key areas, he isn't liked by the players, and when kld does an end of season review he might well think that we need to stick to the plan, but could be well advised to look at who is delivering it
Said over the road months and months ago that the players don't like him. Arrogant and fairly ignorant towards them, speaks the speak to the press but doesn't even like acknowledging a player when passing them in a corridor
Today would be a day too late for me. No chance of moving forward with him there IMO. He gives me the creeps. Johnson had his faults, including the corporate bullshit. But he had at least played 400 games or so and managed a few hundred too. Speakman has never played for, never coached or had any involvement with a first team in his life. He is calling all the shots, and we wonder why we are ****e.
The paradox is that he was also calling the shots when we smashed Sheff Wed 5 nil and went top. I don't think everything can be laid at one person's door
Very surprised the club have tweeted those 2 comments from the German lads using the official account. Maybe something from our captain would have been better.
I think they must have been including a couple of Carabou/Pizza games in that. Going by the SAFC Website, we've played 24 league games since the start of October, winning 9, drawing 6 and losing 9. Still absolutely disgraceful mind. One heads already rolled and if we continue like this, Speakman's position should be in serious doubt at the end of April.
I think we have been flat-track bullies at times. We can look great when everything clicks and things are going our way. Maybe put us in a false position. We’re fragile though if anyone has a go at us or luck doesn’t go our way*. Partly due to all the young players? Other teams now know to pick on this weakness. Plus some worked out how to easily stop us playing out from the back. * We really miss a Bally-type player to help the young uns
To be honest mate, I'm f*ckin sick of hearing rallying cries from our players over the last 8 years. JOS was a past master at it. Perform to your capabilities lads and give us something to get behind!
I've posted on the going up thread...Sheff Wed wasn't a true reflection of our form. They played with too high a back line the likes of which we'll not see again this season. They were pathetic rather than us all conquering
M Aye maybe not. But the team dipping -slumping now- is honestly no surprise to me. His behaviour on deadline day was very revealing. Openly saying that looking for a manager was not an issue, ( Implying there was not a scintilla of planning in place anyway) , saying that it would leave it free for the signing of players, him being the one doing it. He is good at picking talent. But it needs a great deal more than that, and IMO, he should be back doin that and working with young players, which is all he has ever done. His meaningless drivel speak can be ignored only as long things are going well. He has no credit in the bank at all. The team always comes first, and any plans or projects, visions, and all the rest should bend to that requirement, and continue around it. It happens at competently ran clubs and it is visibly not happening here. He seems to treat the process, as I'm sure he'd call it, as an end in itself. He likes people to think he's the man. He is. It's on him.
