Prince Andrew has settled a civil sexual assault case brought against him in the US by Virginia Giuffre, court documents show. Ms Giuffre had been suing the Duke of York, claiming he sexually assaulted her on three occasions when she was 17, allegations he has repeatedly denied. A letter filed to the US district court on Tuesday said the duke and Ms Giuffre had reached an out-of-court settlement. The duke's representatives said he had no comment beyond the court statement. A statement in the letter to US judge Lewis A Kaplan, said the duke would make a "substantial donation to Ms Giuffre's charity in support of victims' rights". It added that Prince Andrew had "never intended to malign Ms Giuffre's character" and that he recognised she had "suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks". The duke also pledged to "demonstrate his regret for his association" with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein by supporting the "fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims". He also commended the "bravery of Ms Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others". Asked for comment on the latest development, Ms Giuffre's lawyer David Boies told the PA News agency: "I believe this event speaks for itself."
So, they were only allegations. Whatever you may think, don't say guilty as charged. It was only a matter of time, but it has happened so quickly. The question now is who pays for it all seeing he dosen't have the money.

I think we'll be hearing more about it whether we like it or not. I care about who pays for the £10m or so it's cost him so far, because he seems the sort who would milk the system if he could get away with it. Drop the Duke of York title for a start.
I think he has saved up quite a bit in his lifetime. He had a Naval Officer's Salary and his allocation from the Civil List for many years.
And now begins the pr blitz to re establish his standing in society,not that it was that high anyway. I always thought that the money would Talk in the end it always does .
I don't think the Royals will want any more publicity of any kind regarding Andrew, I think he'll vanish from sight. I hope anyway...
The fact he's coughed it up as opposed to defending his position says it all, guilty as charged. The damage to him and his reputation is as much as it would have been should it have gone to trial and he'd been found guilty. Zero empathy for the guy

Kate Macnab, a lawyer at Reeds Solicitors, says: "It is likely there will be some demands to know where the payment is coming from - public or private purse?" And Graham Smith from the anti-monarchy group Republic said taxpayers deserved to know where the money for the settlement was coming from.
