Unfortunately if he ever goes down that route then I'm almost certain it'll be with spurs. I doubt very much he'll stay in this area past his current contract.
Not disagreeing, but (re last sentence) it's not either / or. After the past few years, the need is for actions, gestures, investments, etc both on and off the pitch. We desperately need lower match day prices too as £27 a pop is simply to much for too many (yep, there's decently priced memberships, but many will have reasons why that doesn't work for them at this point).
The OSC now has John Hawley as a Director and this post sort of fits in with conversations we are having at the moment. Most posters will recognise John as he is the person who pre covid would take the sponsors out onto the pitch. As an ex player, he is keen to see more former players at games, for various reasons. Supporters like to meet up with their sporting hero's, the ex players like to catch up with old team mates and lets face it, they are all a part of the Hull City Family or Tiger Nation (I like to call it that). In many ways, there is everything to gain and nothing to lose by ex players coming to games. You are right to point out that having stands full of ex players out on a jolly, is maybe off field gesturing and we need to spend on the team first, but this sort of thing is all part of being a football club. We lost it under the old regime and we do need this sort of thing to be brought back, but better. By the way, Southampton made ex players pay for their tickets, if they wanted to watch the game, even if they where working in the corporate lounges! It went down like a lead balloon.
The Dull Daily article I read said Acun heard that Barmby was at the game and wanted to specially meet him. That's how he ended up in the Directors box next to Acun.
I agree that due to a mid season takeover and with match day prices set at £27 it's a bit expensive but relatively speaking it's standard for the Championship.Next season will see an opportunity for membership purchase, for me that's not an option but for those that can't afford the £27 just now or merely use it as an excuse then at £15 odds a match it's no-brainer material? I agree with much of what you say TOM and fully appreciate the effort that is put in by yourself and the ex players who frequent your events. To my knowledge( and you're perfectly qualified to correct me if I'm incorrect),John Hawley was a regular face, even with the Allams at the helm, why not other's like (for example) Barmby?(that question probably answers itself by his demise under Ehab and is more than likely the fundamental difference between he and John Hawley)... As an aside...John Hawley, who I remember well, was a fantastic player for Hull City!!!
Bizarre to put those two in the same bracket. One of them very much is qualified, the other clearly not.
For what role? Neither are particularly qualified as Championship-level coaches. Barmby may be a good ambassador.
It didn’t seen like it when I played for him at Wyke College, Chris Bolder (Ferriby Manager) was miles better.
Deano certainly does want his old job back. Nick hated the Allams and it will be interesting to see how this develops
Nick did hate the Allams and for me, that's a good enough reason to get him back involved. Deano just wants a job.
Deano does want a job although he is busy with his after dinner speaking and advertising roles. He does have a real passion for the club. He did offer to do a role for free !
He's been a manager at this level, that's already more prestigious than our actual Assistant Manager. He played at the top level of the game and was both technically very good and a model pro. I can't imagine there are many better people out there for our players to be learning from.
Ridiculous comment. Barmby's done next to **** all coaching-wise since leaving us in 2012. van der Veen might be a newcomer to English football, but he'd been involved with the Dutch national team's youth set-up for years whilst Barmby coached Wyke.
