Over the years, I've heard so many opinoins on the difference between a Fan and a Supporter. What was drilled into me in the 70's was this - A Supporter = Somone who financially pays to watch matches A Fan = Someone who basically likes the club and wants the club to win every week. I disagree, and always will. A Supporter = Someone who invests his/her emotions into the club...period! (if you are unable to attend a match does not mean you don't support the club) A Fan = Is simply just another name for a supporter in my book. You want your club to win regardless.
I’m still in a place where I can still respect Man City fans. They were basically like us until a few years back. Well supported club, local fan base, badly run, yo yo including the lower tiers. Don’t hate them yet for that reason.
There is periods in the past where work and family have prevented me attending However I have manage in them times to attend many home games together with the numerous years I have had a season ticket/card We’re I attended home and quite a few away I’m a sunderland supporter till I die
I know a Man City Supporter, from Manchester. He would disagree, he has always said that the supporters were there before the takeover, then the fans came wanting instant success. Imo there is a difference. Man City Supporters are grateful, Man City fans walk away from Wembley after winning the leauge Cup with faces like smacked arses because it's just run of the mill, see it myself .However its all subjective and I respect that.
Tell me about it mate. First thing I do when the fixtures come out is see whats shifts I'm on and put holidays in.
In the 70s and 80s it was just fans/supporters I thought we were all the same. As long as you want SAFC to win that’ll do for me. HTL KTF
When people ask why I support Sunderland I usually answer "My team might be **** but it's still My team" .
I'm not as big of a fan as I used to be. Our plight would have emotionally crippled me 10-20 years ago. My mood was seriously affected by Sunderlands woes. Now I just sigh in disappointment and slight amusement. Just as well cos my delicate mental state wouldn't be able to cope with it nowadays. I'm the type of person who literally cries over spilt milk.
Semantics up to a point this supporter/ fan thing. But I will say this. We have around 23k at holders. We average over 30k . So about 6k of fans who come sometimes. Obviously not half the time or they would probably get a half st. Maybe they go to a quarter or a fifth of the games. Maybe less . But those who go occasionally, who might number say between 20k and 30k , feel just the same when we win and when we lose. It's where the surge in numbers comes from and it's a big number. Fans of supporters, they come anyway.
Totally agree ... the negative one's I know in the real world don't go to games , the new manager wont be good enough for them ,if we lose today by their high standards.... and the fact we take all the comments as read that they are our fans is very nieve.. mags post all the time on rtg to stir the sh.t
Was told yesterday that Speakman texted Keane and asked him to make a presentation about how to bear Cheltenham. Keane texted back and asked to be removed from consideration.
