I tell you what, team, the Executive at Huntingdon must be having a somewhat sombre mid-morning GnT as we speak. 10-14 days ago it looked like they would attract both Lieutenant Henderson's Walking on Air and Mr Nicholls Stage Star to the field in their big race today. The reality is though that neither, I say neither, have turned up. Most interesting runner, today, with a view to the old Cheltenham Festival has to be old boy Gentleman De Mee who has his 3rd run over the big 'uns (1.45 Thurles). After which he will qualify for a handicap mark. You would have to think of him, at the Gloucestershire jamboree, in terms of the race named in honour of Lieutenant Henderson's Pater. On the Sporting Life website Mark Howard (top judge) has submitted a very good case re Gentleman De Mee, this heat and 12/1 (NRNB). As to this afternoon's outcome surely it will be the one that connections go with to guarantee the lowest possible weight, re the Grand Annual, whilst also ensuring Gentleman Du Mee actually gets in the race. Bit of a balancing act, potentially, but one they should be able to achieve whilst retaining enough pounds up the old sleeve to ensure he is 'well-in' re the Grand Annual.
I will follow Ash Tree Meadow at Thurles 15,30 very closely. Small bet Ffos Las 16,07 Champagne Rhythm 12/1 e/w sky four places, others three
The two Godolphin horses who finished 2nd and 3rd in the opening maiden at Newcastle would be seriously good prospects over timber in the future. Don't think they'll set the world alight on that evidence in the flat sphere but they both look like pictures for the jumps game.
Really poor. I guess the tip in itself was Ryan running The Little Yank again so soon after his cracking place last weekend.
Anyone know how Phil Dennis rides during normal turf season and who is he mostly associated with? Have to say, I have seen him ride the AW a fair bit over these past 2 to 3 seasons and he is very adept at what he does.
Anyone got any views on Gentleman Du Mee yesterday??? You do have to wonder what he inflicted on his handicap mark (will get one after that effort) by romping home by 34 lengths!!! The old boy was cut to a best priced 8/1 (NRNB) for the Grand Annual afterwards. But is not putting him in the the 'Meghan Markle' a major oversight after yesterday's dominant performance??? Supplemented perhaps??? It's hardly looks the strongest 'Meghan'. at the moment
Visually he was very impressive but it doesn't look like he is going to the Festival. https://www.irishracing.com/news?headline=Wide-margin-win-for-Gentleman-de-Mee&prid=229307
