No one is expecting miracles but tonight and to a lesser extent Saturday were worrying to say the least. We have a young squad of players who have struggled more often than not in this league, and a manger who has never managed here before. Most looked like they'd never played together tonight
What a tremendous job Rooney is doing. He’s bought training kit and paid players out of his own pocket. They are all playing for him.
Not great for best part of that game, tbh we've gone backwards in the last couple of games, that may be the players getting used to Shota's tactics, it may be the new players gelling, it may be a fallout from McCann leaving, but he needs to get them firing again that's for sure, not good at all tonight.
I think the worrying thing is clearly that these player have been moulded into a team by McCann over 18 months and they didn't want him to leave. And new players came in tonight who didn't look as good as players they replaced. It might be hard going on the pitch for a while methinks. Thought Allayhar looked lively, Forss was good for 10 minutes and I barely remember him touching the ball from then on.
Ingram was ****e. Zero presence and made the back three nervous all game. Coyle was ****e. We looked better when he was out the squad. Even when Longman had an off game, we still looked better than with Coyle. Docherty was ****e as well, again. Headless chicken comes to mind. I’m seriously doubting whether he’s cut out at this level. Gerrard praised his work-rate but if he rated his technical ability, he’d have kept him at Rangers.
Forss looks out of his depth on a football pitch. Walsh was bloody awful. The Iranian lad was completely ineffective. But Eaves comes on and immediately looks the part. Go figure... But do it ****ing quickly.
We don’t have to all the time now we have Slater but Shota inexplicably picked Walsh (and Coyle, and Forss). And dropped our find of the season in Longman. Pretty clueless management. Doesn’t bode well, and his interviews don’t inspire me either.
Promote Andy Dawson to assistant, he knows The Championship & he might be able to sort the defence out !!!. Not signing an experienced defender in Jan was a terrible decision.
I don't think Shota has shown anything yet to prove he's not completely out of his depth. The last 2 have been dire. We changed the gaffer when there was zero need to and it's a big risk when the incoming gaffer has no experience in England. Found the team and subs odd. Eaves against Buchanan would have been perfect, Longman was an unused sub despite being a key performer for us recently and we decided to not play a holding midfielder. I'm sure he saw last season's games, and it was blatantly obvious that we look ****e without one.
