The building commotion and the delay is actually making me question the appointment. I don't know what to think but it feels like we have got ourselves a little carried away.
Exactly! Players were running through brick walls for him. Look at how many late goals we scored. The spirit was brilliant in that promotion season, it’s one I’ll never forget.
I think he even said in his book. He knew they'd be bricking it having to face him and he knew a different approach was key. And it worked
Exactly Marcus. .....and, of all people, Keano will have leaned this technique from his mentor many years ago (Cloughy)....who said on Parkinson, that some players need a cuddle, others need a rocket. He went on to say that this management is vital.
Let's be honest, Keane may be blunt and a little too self assured but he's not di Canio. He'll have instant respect because he's played at the top, won everything possible and knows football inside out. Yes he may be brusque in the dressing room but he won't need to shout because the players will listen. I'm sure Keane has reflected on his approach and knows players, and people in general, have a tendency to sulk these days. I think he'll be less an Alex Ferguson and more a Bob Paisley these days. I remember Bob once saying he'd talk to players so they could barely hear him, they'd have to lean in and concentrate ... genius!
Definitely. Not just the notion that Keane is the only man on earth that can motivate our players but the fact that people are now making out that the club is incompetent because Keane hasn't been appointed yet.
Would McCann be that bad of an option? Seen a thread on Twitter both Doncaster and Hull fans claiming they played good football under him and he did do well at this level for both, fully understand the buzz around Keane and would be singing hey Jude as loud as anyone should he come, but could the safer option of McCann suit the so called process more?
I'm sure he's a decent enough guy, but I would question if we would have progressed any from LJ to him
I'm disappointed with the club tbh. Keane, McCann, Lennon. None of them fill me with excitement or seem to fit the profile I'd expect given which direction the club seems to be heading. This was our chance to get an up and coming manager like Rob Edwards or a foreign coach with potential. Instead we are going down the usual route. Meh.
Yeah that’s fair the longer this goes on the more baffling the sacking seems, no LJ fan but sure we’d have not lost Saturday with him in charge
Had we appointed mccann last Tuesday doubt anyone would have been too excited but the logic would have been there and we'd have got behind him, after what's happened in the last week it'll be hard for a lot of fans to settle for him
Anyone other than Keane would be a bad option now. Not necessarily because he’s the best candidate but because the fan base have whipped themselves up into such a frenzy that anyone else will be into a hiding to nothing now.
Understand what you're saying, and I have a deal of sympathy with it. The young, progressive coach, foreign or not, is the option you'd think would be the one they would go for. However, for someone like that to bed in,get his ideas across and maybe feel the need to change one or two players, might take time, which is the one thing we don't have. This is why I'm in the Keane camp, because I feel he has the ability to get into these players and motivate them to a play off place and then to promotion. We can't afford to wait...we have to get out of this league now and whatever it takes to give us the best chance of doing that, should be the route we take, even if it means yet another managerial change to a longer term, more fitting the profile, once we get into the Championship.
Would you say that Speakman has done a good Job, because i don't think he has. Took no notice of him till the last few weeks where most of his remits seem to be very poor. Has he got the balance of the squad right, NO, Ship three defenders out and bring one in even though 1 of the 4 remaining has not played for 2 years and looked well off u23 pace still, no backup for Stewart, no coaches at u23 level so had to put a 1 - 1 development coach in charge of the first team because he had no idea about replacing LJ.
This is what I don't understand. Why is it so important that we're promoted this season? No one and nothing can guarantee promotion. If the club don't have a plan for not being promoted, then I'd be worried.
I would say he had done a good job until recently where I think he's made a couple of mistakes. I think generally our approach appears more professional, recruitment makes more sense etc. (not perfect, but there's some thought there rather than scattergun journeymen). He did try and sign another CB. And letting 3 go isn't quite fair, because 2 of them barely had a minute between them so we didn't even used them. I agree it needed strengthening though. As I say I think he did try. But it's left us short in the end. Then this manager process. It's shocking how long it is taking and is seriously damaging our season. I think the 6-0 forced their hand sooner than they expected, but it shouldn't be taking this long. Mind, that might not be Speakman's fault.
I think it's just that patience has run out. If we'd started with this long term plan first season down there'd be a willingness to wait. As things stand we've been down here far too long already and not going up will likely hinder us as a few like Stewart etc. are likely to be poached from the Championship.
