I suspect it relates to a number of claims Adam Pearson made. From what I saw, I think he was lucky the Allams didn't sue on a number of the points.

I recall something from a while ago, that the SMC owed City £18 million at one point. I don't know if that was ever settled, or if FC paid their bit of the interest on that loan.

As I understand it, the head lease states that the stadium must be available for football and rl, but I would suspect that's conditional on them being able to afford it.

Under the Allams the SMC undercharged City and Hull FC a grand total of £18.5 million up to June 2021. If Hull FC's rent goes up so does City's. The same argument about City subsidising Hull FC applies to the Council who set up a system which subsidised both teams.

If the City Council had run the SMC as a business then they would have charged City and FC a rent that covered the cost of building it (spread over x number of years) plus the costs of running it.

I'm sure any landlord would be delighted to have you as a tenant, be sure to check, check and check again, the paperwork before you sign up. That way you won't mistake rates for rent. :emoticon-0100-smile

It was never going to be an easy partnership.
The problems stem from day one when HCC asked both clubs to put up £1m each to form the SMC to run the stadium and FC dipped out and wouldn't pay. City did and therefore it was Pearson alone who headed the SMC.
My solution would be for HCC to put it up for sale, hoping that City buy it, and from the proceeds develop Costello for FC to use. Problems solved and we would have three decent stadiums in the city.

I think a more likely outcome is a combined Hull and Rovers team at Craven Park. It's something Pearson seems to have as a consideration.

As a principle reason for building it was to save FC as the Boulevard was on the verge of being shut that was never going to happen. It ended up helping us but that was incidental.

Too far to travel for FC fans to get to a game. Takes too long. According to some of their fans. Don't know how they think fans of other clubs in bigger cities manage. Or how how City fans in East Hull manage to overcome the difficulties presented in getting to the MKM.<laugh>

As I own my own apartment I don't think I need to be too worried, ta. I also had no issues differentiating my power bill from my rent when I was a renter.

As my question was about rent, and he answered talking about rates, I was unsure if he had read my question correctly. I had no issues on my end.

You do know Rovers had 3 grounds in West Hull before moving to East Hull. And that FC first played in East Hull?<laugh>

FC's rental deal was based on their attendances at the time, to help them out. I think they pay a percentage of any gate over 8,500. They also got a lump some for the Boulevard, which was debatably high.

I think they also get a good deal from the SMC on their rental of the National Ave training ground, which I believe AP negotiated prior to leaving us.

Which does beg the question as to how much City pay in rent

To be fair to Syd that was his question (he didn't ask about rates)

Given the rates etc are significantly more than twice that, I'd say significantly more than £700,000 to the SMC, who in turn are the owners of the head lease.

Oh dear, TwoWrights will be along in a second to admonish someone for getting rates and rent mixed up again. :(

    We don't pay rent.

Juventus had a row about the cost of renting their stadium a few years ago. They are like Man Utd, fans all over. The only major city in Italy without a Juventus supporters club is Florence where they gave up after Fiorentina fans burnt it down 3 times. More people in Turin probably support Torino than them. Juve took their next game to Bologna where it was a sellout getting a bigger gate than Bologna's home games. The message got home and the rent issue was sorted out. Of course Juve, whose fans hated the cavernous place surrounded by a running track, later solved any problems completely by building their own more compact stadium.

They pay under £500k pa, it's in their accounts.

The £700k relates to just 2020, when the SMC stuffed them with a load of extra charges for five games, due to 'COVID compliance' costs.
