I agree that it became a tool for teams to try and influence things but not airing these discussions hides things. Going back to the final race of the season, had the radio not been broadcast we would never have known that both sides were lobbying the race director. I also wonder what conversations teams have with the stewards?
Maybe transcripts of all communications between teams, stewards, race director etc should be published after the event?

I found it interesting that they said this was the first years these conversations were broadcast to the public .

It’s probably been going on for years .

The manner of those conversations were likely quite different once they became broadcast.

Then why single out Wolff? IMO we saw and heard some very ugly and disturbing stuff in that last race, and it was the culmination of a sequence of races where an obviously weak Masi was being pushed and pulled by the team principals. Wolff and Horner should not have behaved like this, and you can bet that in the days of Charlie Whiting it would have been out of the question. Masi's indecisiveness and lack of authority created that vacuum.

    Absolutely.

The ramp up in certain teams playing to the radio and indeed getting their way was massive.

Let's be fair to verstappen the full power of the merc propaganda machine was at play. He is a Loon who has his elbows out every corner but it was virtually set up that verstappen was getting a points deduction if there was contact.

As it was Hamilton was let off cutting the corner completely and imo masi let it go as a result the pre race politics given verstappen had the elbows out again

I can't stand all the fix the race off the track bull ****. Hamilton is the first on the radio every time and then in piles wolff and out comes the penalty book.

When Hamilton races he is untouchable. I just want to see racing on the track not decisions made on the radio.

Horner got the biggest call of all and that should never ever ever happen again

To be honest you can't really blame Horner or Toto. If one openly talks to race director trying to sway them to their aims if the other one did nothing they might lose! So as soon as 1 questions a decision the other must or it could cost the team big time.
I think there does need to be some sort of communication and it should be open but maybe not a back and forth discussion directly with the person trying to weigh things up and, hopefully, looking at safety first, racing second.

I do think Charlie wouldn't have let it get that far before telling them both to get back in their boxes!

If you wanna talk about propaganda, you need to squeeze in Horner's "let them race" bullshit that gets chucked out every time Max drives like an idiot.

Weird how that phrase doesn't get used when they're on the receiving end.

I duuno, there's whining and then there's insinuating an attempted murder cos your driver would rather crash than cede a position he's lost. Wolff is a twat, but Horner is c**t of the highest order.

They are already moaning this season about how last year’s championship was so tough on Max that it might shorten his career. Their whining is unbearable.

Mercedes are already saying they are unhappy with their car and engine.

Ladies and gentlemen... the sandbagging has begun

You spend a year to develop a new car, and end up with something you are unhappy with. I don't know anyone who could say that after a year of dedicated effort with the skills they pocess. They might be expressing an opinion that the new design regs have altered the capability differentiate and perhaps levelled the field. I recall that was the objective of the reg changes.

Lando Norris has signed a new contract to stay at McLaren until the end of 2025.!!!

Bit surprising as they haven't had the new 2022 car on track yet - it could be the slowest!!!!!

it's only going to be 3 seconds faster than the field, they were aiming at 4.

I hope not. I hope the drivers become the stars, not the car.

I wonder what details of the FIA meeting today will produce? Will we see new race director or just some support staff? Maybe some clarification of the rules?
I'm guessing Lewis has some ideas of what the outcome is and that's why he has posted he is back?
What's done is done but the FIA need to learn and for once admit that something was wrong and fix it!

Seems like a better solution to the issues.

FIA also announcing in coming days 'structural changes' and an 'action plan' due to the way the last race of 21 was handled!
So at least that sounds like we will know more before testing - OH sorry before the 'unofficial testing' in Barcelona starting on 23rd Feb.

Interesting that Toto and Horner were absent from the meeting!!! Sounds like they know what's coming and it was decided best to stay out of the spotlight for questions but then again I am surprised Horner didn't take the opportunity to spout more stuff....
