Such a shame that Bale wasn’t fit all last season and stayed this season. Would have been such an incredible front three
Weird game. 3-1 is the right scoreline but with 3 of the goals being very fortunate and both sides missing their best chances. From a Spurs perspective the chances missed is becoming a bit of a theme, we saw it against Leicester and to a degree, in the 20 mins of the Chelsea game that we turned up for. It's a little worrying. What I did like though is that there's much more movement and, as a result quicker play. It's been an issue of ours for a long time along with the distance covered. Conte seems to be fixing those issues so hopefully things will start to come together more over the coming months as the results have been good but there's been some poor performances in there too.
Positives 1. We won against a good team 2. We scored a few 3. Kane scoring 4. Son and Emerson returning from injury 5. New guys getting to play 6. The first half 7. We attacked and created chances... 12 attempts 8. A good team performance Negatives 1. Missed some very good chances 2. Conceded too many chances ... 13 3. That 20 mins after ht... needed to change things quicker... half of their attempts came in that spell.
Enjoyed that one, twenty minute spell in the second half aside we more or less controlled it throughout. Kane brilliant with Romero and Emerson just behind him as our top three performers. Great seeing Romero looking that good too on his return, the cramp felt inevitable. Reguilon and Son also looked decent. Bentancur and Kulusevski both with pretty decent cameos. Bentancur made himself very busy the moment he came on albeit picked up a silly yellow and Kulusevski should’ve had an assist to his name, definitely getting Chadli vibes from him (albeit from the opposite flank) and I was a big fan of Nacer. Thought Lucas and Winks were by far our poorest players… until Bergwijn entered the pitch and dropped the worst cameo since Winks vs Everton in this very competition last season. Bergwijn looked ****ed after three minutes, think he lost the ball two or three times, ****ed up a glorious chance (costing Kulusevski the debut assist) and just looked so uninterested. Not sure if he was just having a serious off day or he’s pissed he never got the Ajax move but that was an absolute stinker of a sub appearance. Bissouma was very impressive for them, the only player that caused us genuine problems. On the whole though a good win, far more positives than negatives and Brighton are no mugs under Potter as we all know.
Wasn't this his first game for a while for us? If not ... what you said Recovering from covid and stupid to boot
Judging by your initial post, I think you’ve got Romero and Emerson mixed up. Romero returned from injury, not Emerson. Albeit both played very well today.
Thought Hoejberg was not good tbh. Thought he was pretty poor in the second half and distinctly average in the first half. Towards the end he was giving the ball away regularly. Thought Winks was OK But Thought both worked hard. Moura had a decent 20 minute spell but was pretty poor over all. Bergwijn was very poor. It's like Leicester never happened. But in fairness to them all they worked hard which was not the case with players performing poorly before Conte
Both midfielders weren't at their best but Winks done jack throughout the whole game. Hojbjerg grabbed an assist and was at least trying to make things happen, that was the typical sideways captain crab Winks we've seen over the last 5 and a half years. I thought Lucas was **** to be honest and would've been our worst player had Bergwijn not dropped that cameo, offered next to nothing, one or two pretty bits of link up play but nothing anyone else couldn't have done. Also cheaply lost possession.
Just reading back on some earlier posts, I'm with Crackers and Dee, I like Emerson (and Reguilon). The Brazilian just needs to improve his crossing, he's got more or less everything nailed down - good athlete and not an erratic mess at the back like our last RB, if his crossing improves he'll be a top, top RWB in my opinion. We still need another in the summer to give him proper competition but I like the guy and I'm glad that Traore rejected us because he's not the guy to make Emerson step up in my opinion. As for Reguilon, never really get the hate he gets. He makes the occasional mistake every 7 or 8 games but his pros far outweigh that. Robertson (and Cancelo if we put him at LWB) is the only LWB with more assists than him this season and he's also got a goal too. He's often a threat down the wing as he was today and he's not too shabby defensively either, just sometimes loses his concentration. You'll find it very hard to get a significant improvement on him.
Best LB we've had in the Prem. Rose probably had a better individual season but Benny was far more consistent over a longer period of time, great player and one that AVB ****ed over, the prick.
We already know two things with near certainty: 1) Skipp is currently out best CM. 2) 343 just doesn't work against decent teams. We have no midfield control. Potter got it wrong trying to mirror us by using Cucurella in an unfamiliar CB role, but he rectified it at HT by introducing Veltman and the LB and Lamptey suddenly had a much better platform to get forward. As a result we were outnumbered across the middle and Winks/Hojbjerg simply disappeared. Were it not for our pretty lucky 3rd goal there's every chance they'd have equalised.
He looks a good buy, but I was watching a video of his 'best' moments the other day and he seems to keen on tackling off his feet. Looked effective, but can see him falling foul of PL refs if he continues here and will pick up quite a few reds along the way with the new 'out of control' edict.
