Excellent post marra, exactly my thoughts....its was one hell of a ride first time round & he raised the bar, little things too such as pics of greats up & what this club has actually achieved...it might have been sometime ago but the foundations this club waa built on from the start & the success that created should never be forgotten it should be in plain site. Couple moments standards wise stood out for me & it was the season in the championship. Think it was west brom away? i remember thinking if we can get a point that will be a decent result, Keane got interviewed pre match they suggested a point being decent....Keane replied instant along the lines "this club goes nowhere for a point"....its just a different mindset & he dragged us forward. Another was the refusal of open top bus promotion celebrations, simply saying this club should not be celebrating getting promotion to the PL..again hes right in a way, higher standard. At that time the manager had higher expectations than the supporters due to previous seasons. Only bit think thats maybe harsh on is the plauers who get you up but are not good enough for next level as that might be the best moment of careers. Were a different setup now, recruitment is totally calculated & professional, he needs to fit 'us' now....hopefully hes mellowed a little but not enough that the drives gone, by the quick snipped on ITV last night I dont think it has & hes clearly dying to be back. Needs to move here i think, needs strong experienced number 2 to calm him....its going to be exciting....i guess we need to KTF I think Keane will be even more excited following today, ignoring result. How mny clubs in world football, get hammered 6-0 then the week after pull 37k in, or more so a 7k gate increase, never mind if it was 2md tier, its 3rd tier.....this is why KLD bought in, this is why KLD sees this as a lomg term project, if hes enjoyed it so far he is about to enjoy it quite a bit more when this club really gets going KTF
I always thought the open top bus was unreasonable. The club was relegated and them players and Keane did a great job to turn around a terrible start. It doesn't matter where the club should be looking at size or history etc.. it's about where it is. At that time we had players who didn't achieve much more in their careers and the chance for the fans to show their appreciation of the season they gave was taken away. Harsh on the fans and the players. Imo you can celebrate whilst still maintaining that it shouldn't be a situation the club is in and you will be setting higher standards in future etc...
I think this scenario may be one of those moments when he said he should've enjoyed it more but instead he was thinking of what is to be done next.
Know what you mean mate, once won i was looking forward to the celebrations, once Keane said that it flicked my brain that yeah he was right, guess i have seen to many promotions & relegations at that time & it fitted for me, younger fans will have missed out & yes i agree as said it is harsh on players who that was best moment of career. Its a difficult one
I think I haven't had enough sleep, lump in the throat moment when listening to Crabbers when Carlos Edwards scored that rocket
Remember last time Keane came in, he went on record about players not being good enough and not wanting to be here. He changed it. This time he’s a lot of hungry players who can grow. He’s players who love playing for the club. We will attract a higher calibre of player of we go up due to it being him and his status. I’m sold. His almost playful mood about it last night looked like a man happy with how things had panned out.
Agree with all of this. I was at West Brom and it wasn't a pretty game but we worked hard and kept in the game, that allowed a few bits of class, from us, to get the upper hand. That's what was lacking at Rotherham, Portsmouth, Bolton, etc, you can't rely on the pretty stuff to win games, there has to be organisation and perspiration before the inspiration. Keane walked into a shambles, last time, and recognised that he needed to throw a few hand grenades into the place ... ... I think he's smart enough to know that isn't needed this time. We need calming down, not shaking up.
