Good post. Yeah, there will, of course be other coaches with him but the opinion that if he has good coaches around him he'll do well, which has been expressed by a few people, troubles me. Any manager will want good coaches around him, obviously, but, in this instance, it implies that he needs that to do the job. If that's the case, why not give it to one of the coaches? You're absolutely right, the structure of the coaching staff varies from club to club. But we're set up to have a 'head coach' and not all managers coach. Including, according to some of the stories, Keane during his last stint. My concern is that this as an appointment based on who he is, rather than any substance. Like I said in a previous post though, this might be enough. I think we're at the point that he has to be appointed due to the excitement that has been generated. But I find it contradictory that Johnson was criticised for a lot of things that were actually due to the shortcomings of the players (i.e. he was expected to achieve coaching miracles) yet people are clamouring for someone who has no real reputation as a coach.
